In April 2022, Rockstar Games announced that they were working on the next installment of the GTA franchise. The announcement made all fans pleased and enthusiastic as they anticipated the next installment of one of the most popular video game series in history. In November 2023, Rockstar announced that the trailer for the next GTA title, presumably GTA 6, will arrive in December.
GTA 6 is projected to arrive in late 2024 or early 2025. Since the hack, there have been nonstop leaks concerning the title. Take-Two has been busy with copyright enforcement to protect its privacy policy. However, leaks are being disseminated on numerous social media platforms on a daily basis. GTA 6 is regarded as one of Rockstar’s finest projects, and fans have high hopes after watching the leaked videos.
GTA 6 is a major topic of discussion because of the leaks and rumors that have followed it. Despite Rockstar Games’ lack of a formal announcement, a new rumor claims that GTA 6 will cost $150. The basis for this figure is an estimate of the amount of money Rockstar put into the game’s production. GTA 6’s budget is reportedly an astounding $2 billion, sparking significant debate about the game’s $150 price.
How much will GTA 6 cost?
Data miners reported in May 2023 that Rockstar Games spent over a billion dollars producing the game. This is absurdly high for any video game, and many fans believe it is sufficient grounds to raise the anticipated price.
However, neither the budget leaks nor the anticipated pricing have been commented on by the popular American game firm.
After seeing the jaw-dropping leaked videos, fans had high hopes for GTA 6. However, nothing justifies the hefty price tag of $150 that some are anticipating. Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in 2013 by Rockstar Games and cost $60 per copy. After nearly a decade, the price has decreased dramatically, with the game now costing only $39.99.
Most AAA titles currently cost between $60 and $70 for the digital download. Many consumers prefer to purchase their games digitally, and most companies set their costs within this range. Games, like Hogwarts Legacy, God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring, and others, all cost between $60 and $70.
According to Take Two CEO’s prior claims, GTA 6 may just cost $70. During the Take-Two Interactive earnings call, Brian Fitzgerald of Wells Fargo Securities inquired about fans’ inability to purchase $70 titles.
The CEO of Take Two replied “In terms of the pricing point that you raised, we’re not seeing a pushback on frontline price. What we’re seeing is consumers are seeking to limit their spending by going either to the stuff they really, really care about blockbusters or value”.
If other games are selling well at $70, according to Take Two’s CEO, there’s no reason to think one of the most anticipated video games of all time won’t sell well at that price.
Take Two’s CEO in the interview brings up GTA. He responded to a question about LEGO Drive being worth $70. He said “So, the $70 price point, I would say, is a bit of a red herring. We think that the game is certainly worthwhile with that experience. But the experience itself when you look at sort of the over, if you compare that experience to a Grand Theft Auto, for example, obviously, there’s a big difference”.
GTA 6 would need to sell around 14.3 million copies to generate $1 billion in revenue on the first day at a $70 pricing point. This amount is not unreasonable given that GTA 5 sold approximately 11.21 million copies in its first 24 hours of release.
