Bungie, the company, behind the person shooter game Destiny 2 initially launched the game in 2017 as a paid version for platforms such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. However, they later introduced a to-play edition called “New Light” on October 1, 2019. Since then the game has expanded its availability to platforms, like Stadia, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The company announced in its recent weekly blog that Destiny 2’s next revitalized raid is due for release on September 1, although the specific name of the returning raid was not disclosed.
Bungie pioneered the idea of revamping previous raids with the Season of the Splicer for Destiny 2, starting with Vault of Glass, which was the inaugural raid released as part of Destiny. The raid that followed, King’s Fall, debuted during the subsequent Season of the Plunder and is still revered as one of the best-ever raids.
Bungie is now ready to resurrect another nostalgic raid from its collection and has declared when gamers will have a chance to indulge in it. The intriguing factor about these revived raids is their lack of relation to the ongoing seasonal storyline, which makes speculations regarding the returning raid quite challenging. Is the next raid Crota’s End or Wrath of the Machine?
Is the next raid Crota’s End or Wrath of the Machine?
Bungie, the game developer, has reportedly eliminated the possibility of Crota’s End as the raid returning for the forthcoming season. Joe Blackburn, the Assistant Game Director at Bungie, ruled out Crota’s End but did not elucidate why. The exact cause for Crota’s End’s exclusion remains a mystery.
It’s widely conjectured that Bungie is seeking to reintroduce a raid not constantly featured in Destiny 2. Crota’s End has had multiple appearances in Destiny 2, hence Bungie might be looking to introduce something fresh to the gamers. Additionally, Crota’s End would require a substantial overhaul as it can be completed quickly due to Strand.
In contrast, King’s Fall is held in high regard as one of the finest raids in the Destiny series. Bungie might be intending to reprise a raid that contains a compelling storyline that does justice to the game. They might also not want to reprise two hive-based raids back-to-back. There are speculations of Wrath of the Machine potentially being the raid remodeled in Destiny 2’s imminent release.
Reintroducing Wrath of the Machine could offer Bungie a chance to further unravel the narrative in Destiny 2. Known for its relatively quick sessions in comparison to other raids such as King’s Fall, Wrath of the Machine could present greater replayability value in the long run.
Reprising Wrath of the Machine would also offer Bungie an opportunity to introduce a new Raid Exotic weapon, considering the original raid featured Outbreak Prime, which is now called Outbreak Perfected.
However, with an absence of official confirmation from Bungie, computations about which raid will be reprised in the approaching Destiny 2 release remain unresolved.
