Apex Legends Season 20 Breakout is nearly here and Respawn recently released the launch trailer on YouTube, after it was on premiere for the past 3 days.
Breakout is a highly anticipated season for Apex Legends as it brings some of the most major balance changes in the game’s history, with the removal of Shield Swapping.
Players noticed many interesting things in the trailer, but the most critical element came at the end for a whole 3 seconds, with the legend Horizon in the scene as well.
Apex Legends Breakout launch trailer shows Titanfall 2’s Time Gauntlet
For the unfamiliar, Apex Legends serves as the sequel to the highly popular FPS, Titanfall 2, developed by Respawn. Titanfall 2 is often regarded as the best shooter of the generation due to its high-octane movement, gunplay, and fantastic campaign where the main character uses a combat mech called a Titan, with the main Titan named BT-7274 being beloved by the gaming community.
Breakout’s launch trailer showcases a device encased in a glass pedestal that the legend Horizon is looking at. Fans of Titanfall 2 immediately recognized the device as the ‘Time Gauntlet’ from Titanfall’s main campaign mission ‘Effect and Cause’. The gauntlet seems to be the same as the symbol in the middle plate of the device is identical to Titanfall 2.
In Effect and Cause, players use the Time Gauntlet to instantly switch between the past and present as a plot point, understand the story, and navigate the facility they need to escape from. Effect and Cause is a highly celebrated mission due to its unique mechanic, marking it as one of the best missions in the game.
Time Gauntlet’s appearance in the Breakout trailer has ignited a lot of hopes with many thinking Titanfall 3 might be coming, with others wondering how Apex Legends would utilize the Time Gauntlet. It seems to be a plot point or might be the main mechanic of an upcoming event or LTM for the game.
Biggest changes seen in Breakout’s launch trailer
Apex Legends’ Season 20 launch trailer not only showed the Time Gauntlet, but many other changes that seem to be coming to the game, which seem to be as the leaks suggested.
The first thing that many players noticed was a Blue Handheld Blade by Lifeline in the trailer, which can be a new heirloom for the legend or a universal one like the Buster Sword.

Another thing players noticed was Octane’s ultimate ability to deploy twice in quick succession, with the legend placing a second jump pad mid-jump and boosting himself into the air again. The same thing is noticed for Ash as players see her tactical ability, Arc Snare, deploying twice in quick succession, which either suggests new changes to both legends or the new rumored perk system in play.
Players also saw Wraith executing another legend with her heirloom followed by a new animation, which can suggest a new inspect animation coming for the legend.
Needless to say, this is still a launch trailer and many of these aspects may change when the actual gameplay trailer for Breakout releases on February 8, 2024.
