GTA 5 was released by Rockstar Games on September 17, 2013. The game has officially completed ten years today and is still going strong. The game was updated across the years to support multiple generations of gaming platforms, which is one of the reasons for its massive success.
Over the years the online version of GTA 5 has developed a cult following. The amazing community is another reason why the game is still not showing any waning signs of popularity despite launching a decade ago.
Rockstar Games released a statement to celebrate the 10th anniversary of GTA 5. It said, “As Grand Theft Auto V turns 10 this coming Sunday, we would like to thank you, our players, for your incredible support over the years.”

GTA 5 is the highest-grossing entertainment product of all time
GTA 5 is unarguably the highest-grossing entertainment product of all time, beating out every single book, movie, TV series, music albums, and all other video games. The fifth part of Grand Theft Auto has sold a grand total of 185 million copies, for USD 7.7 billion since its launch on September 17, 2013.

Only Minecraft has sold more copies than GTA 5, standing around 238 million. However, it does not come anywhere close to GTA 5 when looking at the total revenue. It has generated USD 3.1 billion in revenue for Microsoft, less than half of GTA 5.
Another surprising fact is that the total revenue of GTA 5 does not include the amount generated by GTA Grand Theft Auto Online, estimated to bring in over USD 2.5 million every single day. Now, as the release of GTA 6 looms closer, it will fascinating to watch if the the sixth installment of the game will be able to break the record of its predecessor.
GTA 6 release date leaks
It seems like most new information pertaining to the development and release of GTA 6 first finds its way to the public through leaks. The gameplay of the next part of the much-awaited Grand Theft Auto franchise was leaked last year. Soon after, Rockstar released a statement confirming that the game is under development.
Recently, a voice clip featuring Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive was leaked on social media platform X. Even though the validity of the audio has not been confirmed, it suggested a tentative release date of October 24, 2024.
The post has been taken down, but fans now have a date to look forward to, as several other leaks also mentioned October 24 as a potential launch date. The next anticipated update the fans are waiting for is GTA 6’s trailer. However, no official release date has been announced as of September 17, 2023.
