Tyson Fury had one of his most underwhelming performances against Francis Ngannou. The two faced each other on October 28, 2023, in Riyadh. The fight was expected to be a one-sided affair, but the debuting Francis surprised everyone with his performance. Fury won a razor-close decision, but the moral victory went with ‘The Predator’.
While most boxing and MMA fans were expecting a quick finish, Francis took Fury till the end. Furthermore, he dropped Tyson Fury in the third round of the fight. Many boxers, like Chris Eubank Jr., Canelo Alvarez, and Claressa Shields, expressed their disappointment in Fury’s performance. However, it looks like ‘The Gypsy King’ has had enough.

According to multiple reports, the WBC heavyweight champion is considering retiring from boxing. This information comes as a shock since he is supposed to fight Oleksandr Usyk next. While Usyk is calling for a fight on December 23, 2023, it looks like this fight won’t happen at all.
Furthermore, boxer George Groves claims that ‘The Gypsy King’ is looking to avoid a fight with Usyk. “I don’t think it’s Usyk next. I think it’s either Ngannou or that’s the last of Fury, ” said Groves in an interview with Sky Sports.
After the fight against Ngannou, ‘The Gypsy King’ claimed that this was his toughest fight in the last 10 years. Groves claims that he does not lose to Usyk as it will shut down a lot of post-boxing avenues for him. It looks like the embarrassing performance against ‘The Predator’ will send Tyson Fury to retirement.
However, this is not the first time Fury has announced his retirement. In 2013, ‘The Gypsy King’ announced his retirement after his fight with David Haye was canceled, but he made a comeback in just a few months. After this, he announced his retirement in October 2016, saying that it was the saddest thing he ever took part in.

Furthermore, he announced his third retirement in 2017 amidst his suspension due to the use of cocaine. He was going through depression and mental health issues at this time. However, he made a comeback in 2018 and then captured the WBC title in 2021. Fury again announced his retirement in 2022 after his win over Dillian Whyte before coming back to fight Derek Chisora.
Eddie Hearn adds fuel to the fire on Tyson Fury’s retirement rumors’
Popular boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn has now shared his opinion on the reports about Tyson Fury’s retirement. Eddie Hearn was one of the many boxing personalities who blasted ‘The Gypsy King’ for his performance against Francis Ngannou.
“Tyson Fury looks like he’s never laced up a pair of gloves before,” said Hearn after the fight. Furthermore, he believed it was a robbery, and Francis won by two rounds. During that interview, he also claimed that nobody was interested in Fury vs. Usyk after such a bad performance by Tyson Fury.

Now, Hearn has claimed that he has heard insider information about Fury’s retirement talks. “I heard Spence Oliver say it, I’ve heard rumblings of it, I wouldn’t be surprised,” said Hearn. However, former heavyweight champion, Riddick Bowe has a strong stance on this topic.
Bowe is not speculating about Tyson Fury’s retirement; he wants him to retire after such a lackluster performance. “He fought a guy with no fights…Tyson Fury should have got him out of there early,” said Bowe. Do you think Tyson Fury should retire? Let us know in the comments section.
