WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury remains undefeated after his bout with Francis Ngannou last weekend. Given Tyson’s history of winning against some of the best at heavyweight, many assumed he would steamroll Ngannou. Yet, by the end of 10 rounds, the 35-year-old was the one left overwhelmed.
Going into the fight, the Gypsy King had promised his fans to finish Francis under six rounds. However, Francis did not give many opportunities to his opponent and even dropped him in the third round. Regardless, the British pugilist managed to scrape a win via a close split decision to retain his undefeated title.
Despite the win, Tyson Fury called off the post-fight press conference. Many assumed that Fury was scared to address his fans after the controversial win but the actual reason was something else. Tyson’s promoter Frank Warren revealed that it was his idea to call off the press conference.

According to Warren, Tyson was dehydrated after his fight and even had issues submitting his urine sample for drug testing. This is why even though Tyson wanted a post-fight conference he was not permitted to. Additionally, Warren also stated that Fury and his team will answer every question when they reach England.
“Tyson had the drug people waiting for him to pee and he was a bit dehydrated. It was taking him quite a while. So it was my decision, I said just leave it we’ll deal with whatever questions we need to deal with when we get back next week. He always wants to do these things,” said Warren.
With the Gypsy King failing to make quick work of Ngannou, he will have to take his next fight very seriously. However, the WBC champ has no excuses and readily accepted his shortcomings to move forward.
Tyson Fury has no excuse for his performance against Francis Ngannou
Tyson Fury has no excuse for his performance against Francis Ngannou on October 28. The Gypsy King entered the fight as an obvious crowd favorite and many believed he would have easily score an early knockout. Tyson himself reinforced this belief by boasting about his skills and extended fight camps.
However, the original result was very different from what everyone imagined. Ngannou managed to school Tyson in his own sport and even dropped him to the canvas. Although the 6 feet 9 inches fighter went on to win the fight, Francis was the clear winner in the eyes of many witnessing the event.
Yet, after a very close win against a debutant, Tyson had no excuse for his lackluster performance. In an interview with Queensberry Promotion’s Frank Warren, the promoter revealed that the Gypsy King admitted Ngannou to be a very tough guy. A lot tougher than he had previously imagined.
“You don’t get any excuses from Tyson, he straight up says how it was. He says ‘It was a really tough guy’. Listen I’m in boxing I know what boxing is all about and he’s (Francis Ngannou) a handful for a lot of people,” said Warren.
With Tyson not being able to make quick work of Ngannou, his fight with Oleksandr Usyk is postponed to next year. Will Tyson Fury manage to become the undisputed heavyweight champion by 2024? Let us know your opinions in the comments below.
