Darby Allin and Sting are both American professional wrestlers, but that is the only connection between the two. Counting the age gap of 33 years, it could have been possible that Allin was the son of Sting. However, that storyline could only be written and worked out by the AEW creative team.
Sting has been the mentor of Darby Allin since his AEW debut
Sting (real name: Steve Borden) started his professional career in 1985 with the Continental Wrestling Association. He climbed up the ladder of pro wrestling and reached WCW in 1987. From WCW, he moved to TNA in 2003, where he stayed until 2014. From 2014 to 2020, he made his long-awaited run with WWE, where he had some historic clashes with Triple H and Seth Rollins.
Sting moved to AEW from WWE in 2020. He made his debut in December 2020 and filed in as a mentor of Darby Allin. The duo also teamed up together to fight as a tag team in earlier phases, which helped AEW establish itself as a prominent force in the wrestling industry while bedding in a legendary figure like Sting.

During the past three years, the duo has helped each other grow. With one on hand, Allin has learned from one of the most experienced names in the industry. On the other hand, Allin and AEW have helped Sting end his legacy on a high with a prominent run at this stage of his career.
All the joint work between the duo for the last three summed up in the AEW Revolution, with a strong display against The Young Bucks. It is shocking to see how far Sting has come in his career after the initial news in 2015 that he was ruled out of ever wrestling again. In his long and illustrious career, AEW will always hold a special place for the iconic pro-wrestler.
Sting on Darby Allin’s influence on AEW
As Sting walks into the sunset in his professional career, he is leaving AEW in the capable hands of Darby Allin. During his stint with AEW, Sting always talked highly about the influence of Allin on AEW. He saw his partnership with Allin as one of the strongest pillars of the promotion.
Sting once went on a record with Chris Mueller of Bleacher Report to praise the abilities of Allin. He stated, “If there’s a small crowd or large crowd, it doesn’t matter. He’s going to go balls to the wall.” The legendary pro-wrestler added that he was impressed by the work ethic of Allin, which is better than his in so many ways.
Sting added that Darby Allin is continuously thinking about ways to make AEW better as a whole. He has always worked on himself and tried to find ways to help that promotion reach new heights. He is a leader who was bullied as a kid but now leads by example. The interview and the comments from Sting were the biggest co-signs that Allin could ever receive in his career.
It is clear that Sting values the talent of his former tag team partner and sees him as the future of the AEW as well as the industry. The last three years with Sting can turn out to be the most valuable period in the career of the American professional wrestler.
Darby Allin has also been vocal about his partnership with Sting. The American national went on record with Metro to reveal the depth of his relationship with Sting. Allin revealed: “He’s the guy I really hang out with backstage. His dressing room, he’s got his own little private dressing room and he says it’s mine.”
Allin added that he has more in common with Sting than just the face paint. He pointed out the work ethic of Sting and how the legendary figure likes to put in the work rather than just sit there and collect the cheque. Allin concluded by stating that it is cool to be part of the journey of this legendary figure. Especially at the tail end of his career.
Darby Allin on Sting’s sons in professional wrestling
While Darby Allin may not be the son of Sting, it hasn’t stopped the pro-wrestling community from speculating about whether the two real sons of the iconic figure will ever get into the ring to follow in the footsteps of their father. Apart from the fans, Allin has also speculated about the issue, considering his relationship with Sting. He was lucky enough to ask directly about the future of Sting’s sons.
Darby Allin talked to Digital Spy about the two younger Bordens. He sadly revealed that they are not interested in this industry. Allin added that he believed that the two sons could have worked together as a tag team. However, that dream looks like a distant possibility, judging by the comments of Allin.

Allin also talked about how winning the AEW Tag Team Championship before the final match of Sting has been the perfect ending for their story. He stated that the titles will ensure that Sting ends his career on a high note. Stint didn’t compete in any traditional single matches in AEW and entered the Sunday night event with an undefeated record in tag-team matches.
The title victory back on February 7 was the first major championship of Sting’s career since his TNA days. As Allin summed above to Digital Spy, it was the perfect end to the story of Sting, who has given his all to the professional wrestling community.
