Sting, whose real name is Steve Borden, is a professional wrestler who is widely recognized for his successful career in various wrestling promotions. Most notably in WCW and TNA (now known as Impact Wrestling). Sting made his wrestling debut in the mid-1980s and gained popularity through his unique persona and charismatic presence in the ring. The Icon is currently signed with AEW and is still an active wrestler.
Sting also joined WWE back in 2014 after years of waiting. Fans were eager to see him in a WWE ring ever since WCW went out of the business in 2001. Furthermore, his tenure in WWE was relatively brief compared to his legendary career in other promotions. Unfortunately, Sting’s in-ring career in WWE was cut short due to a neck injury he sustained during his match against Seth Rollins.

Following the injury, doctors advised The Icon not to wrestle again and that forced Stamford-based promotion to not allow him to compete as well. A year after his exit from the company, Sting revealed that though he feels ‘Normal’ and ready to compete, the doctors told him otherwise. Many also held Rollins responsible for the injury sustained by The Icon during their match at Night of Champions 2015.
However, Sting defended Seth in an interview with Bill Apter back in 2016. He added, “It was just a freak accident. I’m telling you, Seth, it is not his fault. I mean, not even in the slightest percentage of anything. It was without question, it was me, and to this day I cannot figure out what the heck I was thinking.” Sting also went into detail explaining how a dangerous landing made him feel paralyzed.
WWE Career of Sting and why did he leave?
Sting made his first appearance in WWE at the Survivor Series pay-per-view event in 2014. His unexpected arrival generated tremendous excitement among fans, as it marked his long-awaited debut in the company. He engaged in a high-profile feud with Triple H, culminating in a match at WrestleMania 31 in 2015.
Following WrestleMania, Sting continued to appear sporadically in WWE. Prior to his exit from the company in 2016, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as well. Sting’s departure from WWE was primarily due to his neck injury. He was also forced to retire only until his AEW debut in 2020.
The Icon described how he took off from WWE on good terms while talking to Bill Apter. “I had my last match with WWE for the World Title against Seth Rollins, I’m bragging, this is good, and I’m glad that I can say I went out like that,” Sting admitted.
