The name Manu rose to prominence in the professional wrestling industry in the late 2000s. Born as Afa Anoa’i Jr., Manu has his roots in the legendary Anoa’i family. His father, Afa Amituana’i “Arthur” Anoa’i, has been a great wrestler of his time and after retiring, he started World Xtreme Wrestling, training the young minds for their future in the same industry.
As expected for almost all the Anoa’i family stars, Manu’s brothers, Lloyd (L.A. Smooth) and Samu, are also part of the wrestling industry. Following in their footsteps, Manu first stepped inside the ring when he was 13, winning a Battle Royal in Austria. He later trained at his father’s promotion for eight years until 2006.
WWE then signed the Anoa’i star and kept him in Deep South Wrestling, FCW and OVW for the next one year. On November 19, 2007, Manu got his first shot at the main roster. Despite being released from the promotion in early 2009, Manu left a significant mark on his career, facing stars including Batista and Randy Orton.
