Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson finally made his return to pro wrestling on WWE SmackDown’s recent episode, and received a spectacular ovation from fans. The Rock showing up suddenly during a weekly show was something nobody would have expected, and that’s why it was extra special for the entire audience.
The People’s Champion returned on the September 15 show, but even before that, he appeared on The Pat McAfee Show. During his conversation with McAfee, the Hollywood actor talked about a number of topics surrounding the Stamford-based promotion, and also his own in-ring career.
In the interview, the host asked Dwayne if he’s been away from competing to avoid injuries or if his schedule is the real issue. Answering this, Dwayne revealed that neither of them is the reason behind it, and he also shared something that might be a reason why he may not fight Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
The Brahma Bull said, “Honestly brother, it’s not the injury that I’m concerned about because that’s just part of it. It’s just part of the game you sign up for. You get hurt, we all get hurt. That’s just the way it is. It’s not even the schedule because I can control the schedule, to a large degree.” (Via: POST Wrestling)
Explaining further, Johnson shared that his going back to WWE for a match comes down to the fact that he wants to give fans something they’ve never seen before. With The Rock setting such things in mind to make an in-ring return, it might be the reason why he may not fight The Tribal Chief in their highly anticipated match rumored for 2024’s WrestleMania.
Dwayne Johnson vs Roman Reigns was originally planned for WrestleMania 39
The recent discussion about The Rock has been about an encounter against Roman Reigns at 2024’s WrestleMania, but everyone knows that it was initially rumored for WrestleMania 39. During his appearance on Pat McAfee’s show, Dwayne talked about that and confirmed that it was originally planned to be held at this year’s event in SoFi Stadium.
The People’s Champion shared that he had a meeting with Vince McMahon and Nick Khan in early 2022, and that’s where they discussed this match. After the discussions, they had decided to have it at WrestleMania 39, but it wasn’t able to become a reality due to some reasons.
Later in the interview, The Rock also revealed that he’s open for a match at WrestleMania 40. However, despite this, the thing that will probably stand as an obstacle in Dwayne’s match is his own desire to give fans something they haven’t seen before. Therefore, it remains to be seen how things go in the next few months and if The Brahma Bull will really compete at The Show of Shows or not.
