According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, Mass Cell Activation Syndrome, or, “MCAS is a condition in which the patient experiences repeated episodes of the symptoms of anaphylaxis – allergic symptoms such as hives, swelling, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, and severe diarrhea. High levels of mast cell mediators are released during those episodes.”
As per WebMD, This condition causes mast cells in our body to release an inappropriate amount of mediator substance that causes allergy-like symptoms. Mast cells are a part of your immune system and they work primarily by releasing chemical mediators and cause allergic reactions when our body is exposed to any allergen.

When a person is diagnosed with MCAS these mast cells uncontrollably release the same chemical mediators even if there is no exposure. Researchers are still studying the exact cause of the illness. Raquel was last seen in the ring when she competed against Nia Jax at a live event on December 3, 2023. In her video address, she talked about how she moved back to Texas for family support during these hard times.
