Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has had a strong association with Disney throughout his career. While he is primarily known as a professional wrestler and an actor in various action movies, he has also been involved in several projects with Disney. One of his notable collaborations with Disney was his portrayal of Maui in the animated film “Moana” released in 2016. A live-action adaptation of the movie was announced earlier this year.
However, the project seemed to be in jeopardy at a point with the reports of Disney cutting ties with Johnson being circulated. It was reportedly because of the $3 billion lawsuit he is facing right now. However, defying all the rumors, The Great One provided an update regarding the upcoming “Moana” live-action film.
“Sometimes our strengths lie beneath the surface. Far beneath in some cases” ~ Moana,” Johnson tweeted quoting the Moana character. He further revealed the release date of the film. “🌊🩵Humbled (and excited) to share our official release date for our live-action @DisneyStudios MOANA June 27, 2025”.

The Rock also added, “It’s my privilege to share our legends, songs, and dance of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families. Love & mana ~ Maui🪝”. Along with the tweet, he also shared a video still perhaps from the movie with the theme music of the movie. Considering the update provided, the live-action adaptation of the Disney movie is slated to go on floors sooner rather than expected as it is set to release on June 27, 2025.
Speaking of the production, the film is jointly produced by “Seven-bucks Productions” and “Walt Disney” studios. The live-action adaptation will be directed by Thomas Kail, popularly known for his work in “Hamilton”. As of now, none of the cast is confirmed apart from Johnson playing “Maui.”
Dwayne Johnson is one of the defendants in the $3 billion kidnapping lawsuit
Last year, a former WWE employee, Trenesha Biggers aka Rhaka Khan filed a 48-page lawsuit with a $3 billion claim against the damages. The suit contains several big names including NBA legend, Michael Jordan, dozens of personalities from the wrestling industry, government organizations, NGOs, and various police departments as well.

Moreover, one of the most notable defendants on the list is none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He is accused of conspiring the kidnapping of the plaintiff and her children. As of now, the suit is set to go ahead in the Southern district court of New York.
Meanwhile, The Rock is reportedly facing multiple setbacks due to the lawsuit as well. It was rumored that he was axed from Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise amid the lawsuit. Henceforth, more updates regarding the lawsuit will be provided in the very near future.
