The WWE Universe is filled with tales of rivalry and friendship and one such bond exists between CM Punk and Kofi Kingston. WWE became the matchmaker to unite the two stars. However, their relationship often leaves fans wondering if the two are friends in real life.
Breaking the ice, it must be noted that CM Punk and Kofi Kingston are friends in real life. The two have shared the ring on multiple occasions, despite their contradictory personas. While Punk has been blunt in his speech, Kofi didn’t receive much mic time. However, Kofi is well known in the WWE Universe for his top-notch athleticism and high-flying moves.

While the WWE Universe had the privilege to see their tag team for merely 46 days, the two created a lifetime of memories for the fans. After Kofi Kingston won the WWE Championship for the first time in his career in 2019, CM Punk was among the first to praise him. Punk appeared on the Sauce & Shram show and expressed his happiness about Kingston’s win.
“It should’ve happened 10 years ago. You know, that’s what I’ll leave with. And it’s one of those things where, yes, I’m stoked that it happened now, but again, be ahead of the curve instead of behind it,” he said. In 2023, he dropped another subtle message that revealed his bond with Kingston.
CM Punk took to his Instagram story to post a shot from a comic book. On the concluding page of the comic, there lay two dead figures with a message: “Closer together until they come to rest in each others’ arms! Lovers in death as, once they were in life!” He additionally tagged Kofi Kingston and wrote, “Me and @truekofi backstage.” Thanks to WWE for making the two great friends in real life.
What did Kofi Kingston have to say about his bond with CM Punk?
Back in 2008, CM Punk and Kofi Kingston became the WWE World Tag Team Champions. This gave a golden opportunity for the two to share the ring. Kofi spoke to Fightful in 2020, where he talked about his experience of working with Punk. “He was one of the guys who took me under his wing when he didn’t have to. I was always grateful for that friendship,” he said.
This wasn’t the only time when The New Day member made great remarks about the former AEW star. In 2021, Kingston once again talked about his bond with Punk on the ‘Into The Danger Zone‘ podcast. “I’ll always be grateful for the time that we had and always consider him to be my brother, regardless of what happens from this point forward,” he said. His comments are a clear proof of the fact that the two share a great bond, both on and off the screen.
The New Day member also made sure that he stood by Punk at all times. During the tough phase of CM Punk’s career, Kofi claimed that he was happy with whatever Punk was doing in his life. Kofi’s words aligned perfectly with what a fan would have expected from a true friend. With this being said, the two have checked all the boxes for sharing a great friendship, even off camera.
