Stanislas Wawrinka was once recommended as the next big thing in tennis. There was a time when the guy from Switzerland took everyone by surprise. He made the biggest headlines of his career when he defeated Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Australian Open. This stunned everyone considering the fact that Rafael Nadal is probably one of the best players of the game. He did this in the year 2014.
The same year, he got everyone by surprise when he defeated another one of the ‘Big 3’ in tennis, Novak Djokovic. He defeated the Serbian international in the finals of the French Open. The Swiss did not stop and surprised the Joker again two years later in 2016 at the US Open. It was again in the finals.

But recently the Swiss international has been out of court for a while now. He was last seen playing in the Australian Open this year where he suffered a shocking 2nd round exit. Since then, he has been out due to injuries. He underwent surgery in March this year which was followed by another one later this year. Thus, he has been side lined for over a year now.

The player recently spoke about how he misses playing on the courts. “There are a lot of things that you don’t know about athletes. About what they’re going through. You only ever see the good sides. But it’s difficult for many of us, including me. Life on the tour is something very special, and you chose it at a young age. I really want to come back, back to the emotions that tennis gives me, to the stadium, to the fans. I miss this life said Stanislas Wawrinka.
When is Stanislas Wawrinka expected to make a return?
As told by the player, he is expecting to make a comeback in the year 2022. He expects to be back in time before the Australian Open next year. We would definitely love to see him on the court once again considering the fact that he was such a brilliant player once.
