Under unfortunate circumstances, the Canadian Olympic figure skater Alexandra Paul passed away in a car accident, at the young age of 31. Police report that a truck crashed into multiple stationary vehicles in the streets of Ontario, on Tuesday, which got her killed.
In the 2014 Sochi Games, Paul represented Canada and came 18th in the ice dance competition. Before taking retirement from figure staking in 2016, she won a silver medal in 2010 at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships.

With a heavy heart, Skate Canada announced this disheartening news. “It is with a heavy heart that Skate Canda announces the sudden passing of a cherished member of our skating community, Alexandra Paul,” they said in a statement on Friday. “A shining star on and off the ice, Alexandra’s dedication, passion, and remarkable talents have left an indelible mark on the world of figure skating,” they further added.
Alexandra Paul was with her infant son, who was taken immediately to the hospital post-accident, with non-life-threatening injuries. Besides them, three more people were in the car crash and endured several injuries.

Alexandra Paul is married to Mitchell Islam, who is also a Canadian competitive ice dancer. In February 2009, he had a very successful tryout with Alexandra Paul. They both were trained at the Mariposa School of Skating in Barrie, Ontario. During the 2009-2010 season, the pair competed together and won a silver medal at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championship in 2010.

Mitchell and Alexandra retired from figure skating in 2016 after earning the bronze medal at the US Classic International. They were involved in a romantic relationship with each other for several years. They finally exchanged wedding vows in September 2021 in a beautiful ceremony. They have a son together named Charlie, born in 2022.
Though Islam has not made any statements on his wife, Alexandra Paul’s death. Currently, he is focused on taking care of his infant child as he was also in the car crash but he survived.
After this tragic incident, Mitchell has become a single parent to their son. She leaves behind her parents, two sisters along with Islam, and her son, Charles, as per an obituary published in the Globe and Mail.
