Joe Rogan has gone on to become the leading face of the podcast world. Originating as a stand-up comedian, Rogan moved to become a UFC color commentator. Soon after, he ventured into the world of podcasting in 2009.
The Joe Rogan Experience has welcomed a vast array of guests, sharing interesting stories from every imaginable aspect of life. From leading politicians such as Bernie Sanders to business magnates like Elon Musk, there is something for everyone when browsing through its hundreds of multi-hour episodes.
This helped Rogan ascend to stardom not many can boast about. The 55-year-old isn’t afraid of tackling deep and controversial issues while voicing his opinions on them. Neither does he hesitate to engage in casual chats about your average-Joe subjects in life.
Combining his early start in the podcasting world and consistent uploading has seen him attract guests from all walks of life. One such individual that the former Feat Factor host has had on the show is Neil deGrasse Tyson. The 64-year-old American Astrophysicist has guested the podcast on three different occasions.
Each time he appears on the show, Neil brings new exciting subjects to the table. And this time, among many other things, he spoke about an inaccuracy he found in the critically acclaimed movie – Titanic.
Joe Rogan and Neil deGrasse Tyson weigh in on the inaccuracy of the ‘Titanic’ movie
Arguably the most famous science personality alive in the world, Tyson showed up during episode #1159 of JRE. Both Joe and Neil dived into the mysteries of the universe, the workings of planet Earth, the significance of astronomy, and many more such topics.
At one point, Neil deGrasse Tyson discussed various inaccuracies in blockbuster movies that made for a very entertaining segment. While breaking down some of them, the 64-year-old bumped into the 1997 film – Titanic. As per Tyson, the producers of the hit movie got the CGI night sky historically wrong.
Neil started off by saying that everyone is aware of the place and time when the infamous ship sank in 1912. He said, “We know where the Titanic sank. We know what time of day. The point of view of Rose, as she’s looking up deliriously to the sky … There’s only one sky she should have seen and it was the wrong sky.”
Neil then pointed out that not only was the sky wrong, but the crew also made a mirror reflection to fasten up the post-production. He continued, “It was worse than that. The left side of the sky was a mirror reflection of the right side of the sky. So it was lazy.”
The cosmologist insisted Cameron use an actual constellation map of that time since the movie was known for great attention to detail. After almost a decade, Cameron got in touch with Neil. And in a hilarious conversation, per Tyson, Cameron told him, “You know, last I checked, Titanic has earned more than a billion dollars worldwide. Imagine how much more it’d have earned if I’d gotten the sky correct.”
Despite the evident humorous tone in Cameron’s response, it didn’t sit quite well with Joe Rogan. The UFC commentator immediately responded with, “That’s a stupid answer from an a**hole.”
Fortunately for Tyson, James Cameron did end up changing the skies, albeit in the re-release of the film. While explaining to his viewers on his StarTalk podcast, Neil said that someone who “worked post-production for James Cameron.
As per the post-production guy, James Cameron was producing a centennial director’s cut. He was re-cutting some of the scenes. “And he tells me, ‘You have a sky he could use.’ So I created the sky and he put it in his thing,” concludes Tyson.
How much did Titanic make at the box office?
111 years after the doomed sailing of the luxury cruise liner, the Titanic is still very much in the public consciousness. Initially released on 19th December 1997, Titanic won millions of hearts all over the world.
At the time of its release, it was the most expensive movie of all time. As per reports, James Cameron had already come to terms with the fact he would “lose the studio $100 million.” However, a combination of groundbreaking VFX and terrific performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet made for an immense hit.

Internationally it made $1.242 billion for a total of $1.843 billion worldwide. It was the highest-grossing movie of all time for 10 years until Cameron beat his own record with the release of Avatar.
At present, the all-time global collections stand at $2.2 billion. Over twenty-five years later, the film was re-released in 3D in February of this year.
