The interim Bantamweight champ, Petr Yan is very impressed with Khamzat Chimaev’s work ethic after having witnessed ‘Borz’ train at Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand. While ‘No Mercy’ is a regular at the renowned gym, Chimaev was recently there for a four-week camp.
Yan praised Chimaev for staying focused despite the loads of attention that came his way. According to Yan, Chimaev is headed to the top if he maintains the consistency and similar work ethic.
In a recent interview, Yan was asked about his views on Khamzat. He replied:
“I was really su“I Was Really Surprised”- Petr Yan Is Highly Impressed With Khamzat Chimaev’s Work Ethics at Tiger Muay Thai. Because he gets a lot of attention and it’s hard to be disciplined when you’re being praised everywhere.”
“But he’s a workaholic for sure. If he keeps it up he’s gonna be at the top for sure.”
Petr Yan will be facing Aljamain Sterling in a Bantamweight title bout as the co-headliner of UFC 273. The interim champ lost his strap to Sterling via a DQ loss at UFC 259 last year, after a controversial illegal knee. He has since bounced back with a dominant decision win over Cory Sandhangen at UFC 267 to earn another title shot.
Meanwhile, Khamzat Chimaev is scheduled to face former welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns on the same night at UFC 273 this Saturday. Chimaev currently holds an unblemished 10-0 professional record, with all of his wins coming via stoppage.
Khamzat Chimaev is improving his striking skills at Tiger Muay Thai
Khamzat Chimaev, one of the fastest and feared rising stars the sport in the UFC has just gotten even scarier. Reportedly, ‘The Borz’ has been training at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand to hone his striking skills.
Tiger MT has housed some of the biggest athletes in the UFC such as Israel Adesanya, Valentina Shevchenko, Petr Yan and Alexander Volkanovski to name a few.
Recently, Chimaev offered fans some insight into his training days at Tiger Muay Thai. He claimed that several fighters refused to spar with him at Tiger Muay Thai after realizing his power.
However, Khamzat revealed that the biggest problem he faced was amateur fighters filming his training sessions all the time and it was hard to stay focused amidst all of that.
The “Borz” has completely obliterated all of his competition inside the octagon. However, his goal is to capture the Welterweight gold. A dominant win against Gilbert Burns might land him that title shot against Kamaru Usman.
