UFC 301 is almost upon us and despite a lot of negative comments on the card, fans are keen to see how things play out. That said, all the fight week festivities have nearly concluded and the athletes are making their final preparations ahead of fight night. That said, let’s also take a look at the weigh-in results that have recently concluded.
For those unaware, UFC 301 will be headlined by flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja, as he looks to make his second title defense against Steve Erceg. Initially set to be headlined by Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill, the changeup was made after the light-heavyweight bout was shifted to last month’s UFC 300 instead. As a result, the hype for the event took a massive hit, regardless, the show must go on.
Moreover, UFC Hall of Famer and legend Jose Aldo is set to make his return to the Octagon for the first time since his retirement in 2022. Taking on bantamweight contender Jonathan Martinez, their fiery face-off earlier this week has garnered the co-main event a lot of hype as well. Other notable names on the main card include Anthony Smith, Michel Pereira, and Paul Craig.
William Gomis comes in 3 lbs under the weight limit for UFC 301
Ahead of UFC 301 fight night, the final festivities are yet to wrap up. That said, the official weigh-ins for the event recently took place at 9 AM BRT/ 5 AM PT. Along with the Q&A and Ceremonialweigh-ins later in the day, it makes up for the final formalities ahead of the event. That said, let’s take a look at the results of the recently concluded weigh-in from earlier in the day.
For the most part, many will be relieved to know that all 28 fighters have made weight for UFC 301. With all the main card fighters stepping on the scales pretty early on, things looked to be heading in the right direction for the event. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows just yet, as one fighter’s walk to the scales has become a topic of much discussion online.
French UFC featherweight fighter William Gomis took to the scales, fully clothed and under the watchful eye of the doctors who were following him closely. Surprisingly, not only did the Frenchman step on the scales fully clothed, but he also weighed in at 143 lbs, which is 3 lbs under the featherweight non-title fight limit. As a result, Daniel Cormier, Jon Anik, and Paul Felder who were present for the show, cut an extremely surprised figure.
Fans react to William Gomis struggling to walk after making weight for UFC 301
For the most part, as William Gomis made his languid approach to the scales and struggled to get on it, the weigh-in show crew felt that perhaps the fighter was about to miss weight. After hearing that the 26-year-old weighed in at 143 lbs, the team rechecked their notes and realized that the French prospect had come in under the weight limit for the fight.
Unsurprisingly, the botched weight cut had left the fighter a husk of himself, needing the help of the staff and security to walk away afterward. According to reports from Guilherme Cruz that have come out since then, Gomis reportedly threw up moments before weighing in and thus, was followed by a lot of medical staff before weighing in. In a recent update, we have received word from Gomis’ team that the fight has been canceled, possibly as a precautionary measure.

Naturally, the entire ordeal also drew in a lot of reactions from the fans. Instead of what is often the case with fighters missing weight, it was the first time in a long while that fighter has come in under the required weight. As a result, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the same. Notably, many called for a stop to the cruel weight cuts with some suggesting that the athlete be pulled out of his fight at UFC 301.
