On X, MMA UNCENSORED posted Makhachev’s alleged response to the Spaniard. According to the post, Makhachev said, “Another short guy is talking. Another short guy wants to be smashed.” However, no official source of the quote was posted by the X account. The quote is likely fake.
Moreover, another fake Makhachev quote has been doing the rounds. This time, the quote has been made by a parody X account of Makhachev. The post read, “First I smesh Gaethje June 8 then I give topuria dagestan growth medicine @Topuriailia @espnmma #ufc”

Ilia Topuria falls for Islam Makhachev’s fake quote and responds to it
Unlike Ilia Topuria, Makhachev has faced a loss in his pro-MMA career. The 32-year-old lightweight has lost only once in his career which consists of 26 fights. After making a successful UFC debut and extending his record to 12-0, Makhachev faced Adriano Martins at UFC 192. He was defeated by the Brazilian via first-round KO.
Topuria posted the video of Makhachev getting brutally knocked out. The Spaniard’s caption translated to, “The boy is cutting you off.”

The video was a response to Makhachev’s fake quote. Topuria, just like many others around the MMA world, fell for the fake quotes.
Topuria has called out Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor among other fighters
Since his victory over Volkanovski, Topuria’s confidence has skyrocketed. The undefeated 15-0 fighter has made his presence in the UFC known and he was also felicitated by Real Madrid at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu in front of over 85,000 fans. Topuria believes the sky is the limit for him. That has also culminated in him calling out several fighters.
In his post-fight interview at UFC 298, Topuria called out Conor McGregor. He asked the UFC to set up an event in Spain and called out McGregor for a fight in Europe.
Moreover, he wants to fight Makhachev to become the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC. Before that, however, he had three other fighters in sight.
Ilia Topuria’s dream fight is against Khabib Nurmagomedov:
“I would be happy to enter the octagon with Khabib Nurmagomedov. He had an undefeated record at 29-0 and he had an attractive record for me, then also history.
He is a worthy and honourable champion for me. [I would… pic.twitter.com/km3NZLwOxA

In an interview with Eurosport (Espanol), Topuria said, “The three rivals that I would most like in the next fight are Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, or Sean O’Malley. I want to fight again before the end of the year, and then the next target would be Islam Makhachev. That fight would be the one that would bring me closest to number one in the pound-for-pound ranking. I see myself as a double champion.” [Translated via Google Translate]”
Lastly, Ilia Topuria even called out retired UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov. In another recent interview, he claimed, “I would be happy to enter the octagon with Khabib Nurmagomedov. He had an undefeated record at 29-0 and he had an attractive record for me, then also history. He is a worthy and honorable champion for me. [I would 100% defeat him].”
Conor, Islam, Khabib, Mayweather, Muhammad Ali, Messi… Who else do you want to fight rather than the only undefeated fighter in your division? @Topuriailia https://t.co/xzUE8gRiZm

Movsar Evloev, another undefeated UFC featherweight fighter was annoyed by his omission. He expressed his displeasure on X via a sarcastic post claiming that Topuria is calling out any and everyone except him.
