UFC middleweight fighter Paulo Costa has a valuable suggestion for the sport of MMA. During a recent podcast appearance, Costa suggested that the scoring of the fights should be more transparent and visible to fighters, the way it is in different sports.
Paulo Costa made an appearance on the JAXXON podcast where he discussed several topics. With his appearance on the podcast, Costa left fans impressed with how much he has improved his English. The Brazilian fighter formed meaningful sentences and expressed his ideas very clearly.

Paulo Costa’s valuable suggestion for the sport of MMA
While talking about eye pokes and how intentional or unintentional they are, Costa suggested a change in the sport and asked the hosts of the podcast about their views. Costa said that he would like the points to be displayed for the fighters to see after each round. He believes that although this might make the winning fighter adopt a defensive strategy, it would help the losing fighter go all out.

He said, “I think the points would be visible. The points by rounds, I think, it, you know, some people say ‘It’s not good because if you are winning you going to avoid the fight’ but for other side the guy going to try, you know, bring the fight on. So, I think [it] is better to exactly know if you lost because in basketball football soccer, you know, the point they score, why not in the fights?”
Hosts Bear Degidio and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson were impressed with the suggestion. They instantly agreed that this might be a good way to move forward in the sport. This can prove as a vital suggestion but surely there is a long way to go before something like this is implemented.
Paulo Costa agreed to a fight against Jared Cannonier before he was booked against Sean Strickland
Paulo Costa explained how he was booked for a fight against Strickland soon after taking on Robert Whittaker. ‘Borrachina’ took on Luke Rockhold in August 2022 at UFC 278 and he was reportedly booked to fight Whittaker in February 2023. However, due to some discrepancies that fight did not take place. Costa was later booked for a fight against Khamzat Chimaev in Abu Dhabi at UFC 294. But, he had pulled out due to an infection in his elbow.

He finally entered the Octagon against Whittaker at UFC 298 and lost the fight via unanimous decision. The fight took both fighters to their limits but Costa came out unharmed.
He said, “So, right after this fight against Whittaker, you know, I did not get the injuries, nothing serious. So, why not fight right after this, so, yes. First, UFC suggest to fight Cannonier. We agree. I think he still a good name a good fight but then something come up with Strickland. So, I say oh even better.”
