In one of the biggest fights in UFC history, Jorge Masvidal took on Stockton’s favorite, Nate Diaz for the first-ever BMF title. There was an unprecedented hype behind this fight.
Both Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal are two of the most beloved fighters in UFC. Masvidal has become one of the biggest stars in UFC since his return. And Nate Diaz has always been a needle mover in the business. The fans anticipated a five-round war between the two.
But, it was a one-sided fight as long as it lasted. Jorge Masvidal dominated Nate Diaz and won the fight after a controversial doctor’s stoppage.
Though Nate Diaz had relatively more success at the end of the third round Masvidal would have won the last two rounds had the fight continued.
Joe Rogan opened up about a potential rematch between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz and said that he was confused with fans’ demand for the fight. Rogan believes that Masvidal left no doubt after the first fight that he was the better fighter. Rogan said:
“He beat the f**k out of Nate Diaz. That was a crazy fight. They were talking about running that back. I was confused.”
Can Jorge Masvidal be a UFC champion?
Masvidal fought Kamaru Usman in his last fight. Though he failed to capture the welterweight gold he certainly looked a threat to the champion. But, he needs to make a big statement inside the octagon before he asks for a title rematch.
And that fight can be the grudge match against Colby Covington. Covington demolished Tyron Woodley in his last fight and is waiting for his title rematch as well. Now Masvidal vs Covington would have been huge with the welterweight title on the line. But the fans would not complain if this fight takes place next.
Besides that UFC is looking for two coaches for its upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. And who can be better than Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal to coach the young fighters on the TUF? This will allow a big build-up for this grudge fight.
Jorge Masvidal has done some incredible things in the sport. But, he has not captured the UFC gold yet. Will he be able to accomplish that in his UFC career?
