Ian Garry has quickly become the talk of the town in the past few weeks. With news and leaks about the UFC welterweight and his wife already causing a lot of controversy, it seems that some fighters also have their differences with him.
Previously, Ian Garry threatened to sue Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland. With the more private details of Garry’s relationship with wife Layla Anna-Lee being made public, Strickland naturally had a few words to say. However, the Irishman’s response did not go down well within the MMA community. If that wasn’t enough, Ian also made insensitive comments about Vicente Luque’s religion.
Thus, Joaquin Buckley, another UFC fighter, weighed in on the matter. In an interview with Parry Punch, Buckley said, “What? You think you’re Jesus now? N***a think he Jesus out here. That’s why he thought he could save his girl, right? Sh*t, even Jesus can’t save these h**s, you know I’m saying? Like, come on bro”. Clearly, Buckley was not pleased with ‘The Future‘ mocking another man’s religion.
In the past, ‘New Mansa‘ who has shifted from middleweight to welterweight, has called for a fight with Garry. However, following his recent actions, Buckley has developed a serious dislike for the welterweight prospect. Notably, he pointed out how Ian had mugshots of Geoff Neal printed on a t-shirt and also twisted Neil Magny’s words before their fight.
Why did Ian Garry start beef with former teammate Vicente Luque?
As for the comments in question, the MMA community as a whole was in uproar after Garry’s comments on a post made by Luque. For those unaware, Vicente Luque is a former teammate of Ian Garry from Kill Cliff FC, and the two are set to face each other at UFC 296. Moreover, the Brazilian is one of the most humble and genuine human beings on the planet, meaning that he is a fan favorite.
However, Ian Garry, either by himself or under the instructions of his wife, decided to disrespect the 32-year-old. Recently, Luque, accompanied by UFC fighter Gregory Rodrigues, had his baptism ceremony. In a moment to be celebrated and shared, Vicente thanked and expressed his gratitude to Jesus Christ. Amidst all the congratulations on the special occasion, Garry decided to leave a distasteful remark.

Underneath the post, Garry commented, “December 16th he’ll be standing in front of you tall blonde, and powerful”. In what was a puzzling statement, to say the least, the Irishman effectively referred to himself as Jesus. Naturally, the comment did not go down well at all and has since been deleted. As such, many accused Ian of trying to start beef where there wasn’t any.
Having trained with Vicente Luque in the past, it was understood that the two had mutual respect. However, as Garry has done in the past, he once again tried to start something but failed miserably in the process. Although Luque himself did not take the comment to heart, it has left a sour taste for many. Additionally, the ongoing wave of controversy around him gave the people one more reason to hate the 26-year-old.
