Conor McGregor and Gilbert Burns have reignited their verbal feud. The former UFC double champion directed his characteristic McGregor-style jabs at the Brazilian welterweight, and in response, Burns had his own comments to make.
McGregor is preparing for his return to the UFC, as he has recently re-entered the USADA testing pool. While the USADA-UFC partnership is to expire soon, his inclusion in the testing pool serves as confirmation that we will soon witness the Irishman’s comeback to the octagon. As he gears up for his return, he has unexpectedly found himself embroiled in a feud with an unlikely adversary.
The Irishman possesses an eccentric personality and is known for his unabashed expression of thought. While these expressions can be amusing at times, they can also stir controversy.

Not long ago, Burns shared a video showcasing his teammate Kamaru Usman’s training session and hinted that Usman would be part of the UFC 294 card. This prediction ultimately proved accurate. McGregor, in response, reposted the video and made the following comment: “Gilbert, “the fat lesbian” Durino.”
Conor is known for his quick wit, and this time around even Gilbert’s fellow Brazilian fighter Bruna Brasil enjoyed his joke and also participated in it, as she replied to Conor’s tweet: “Brazilian Lesbians.”
Conor McGregor’s last fight took place in July 2021, resulting in his second consecutive loss to Dustin Poirier. The bout concluded due to a significant leg injury, necessitating an extended rehabilitation period for the Irish superstar. Following several months of negotiations with USADA, McGregor has now formally re-entered the random drug testing program, solidifying his imminent comeback to the UFC octagon.
Gilbert Burns feels Conor McGregor does not stand a chance in the welterweight division
Conor McGregor has been dropping hints about his UFC comeback in the welterweight division, but a prominent contender in the 170-pound weight class, Gilbert Burns, warns him against such a move. Top welterweight contender Gilbert Burns is of the opinion that McGregor would face significant challenges and be overmatched when placed against the world’s elite welterweight fighters.
“I’m not even calling for that fight because it’s not fair. I think he’s a 55-pounder; if he’s at 170, he can’t take those punches. He cannot handle that wrestling.” – said Gilbert Burns
Although McGregor has previously expressed his desire for a title opportunity against the current UFC champion Kamaru Usman, Burns remains skeptical about how the Irish superstar would fare against fighters near the upper echelons of the welterweight rankings, let alone the world’s best.
McGregor’s current record in the 170-pound division stands at 2-1. However, it’s worth noting that his two victories were against Nate Diaz and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, both of whom have typically competed in the lightweight division for the majority of their careers.
