Alexander Volkanovski is considered to be one of the greatest featherweights of all time. The Australian fighter has yet to be defeated in the featherweight division of the UFC. However, he is coming off a huge KO loss against the Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev. Furthermore, he is scheduled to face Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 in February 2024.
Originally, Volkanovski was supposed to fight Topuria in January, but the match was pushed due to some concussion protocols. In a recent video uploaded on this YouTube channel, Volk explained about his first sparring session since his KO loss at UFC 294. “Back to training, so followed all the protocols to a t…Felt really good no knocks no symptoms still, so we’re rolling,” said Volk.
Furthermore, Alexander Volkanovski went on to thank his whole team, including his training partners, strength and conditioning coach, and doctors. The UFC Featherweight Champion claimed that his doctors have a lot of experience dealing with concussions, so they made sure that all the protocols were being followed.
“I feel great, so we were able to train the whole way through,” said Volk. Furthermore, Volkanovski claimed that he would be having a bigger camp to prepare for his fight against Topuria. Apart from that, he claimed that he would take a break halfway through the camp to go to Fiji.

“I think I’m gonna do a big stint early, have a little break over Christmas, and then the last month and a bit of just getting straight back into it and going hard,” said Volk. It will be interesting to see if Volkanovski will be able to bounce back from a brutal loss or not.
Alexander Volkanovski claims that his skills will be ‘too much’ for Ilia Topuria
Alexander Volkanovski is set to face his toughest test in No. 5 ranked featherweight, Ilia Topuria. With a record of 14-0-0, ‘El Matador’ has cemented himself as a brutal force in his weight class. Furthermore, he is coming off a strong victory over Josh Emmett to get his title shot.
However, Volk isn’t fazed by the challenger at all. In a recent interview with Fox Sports, Volk claimed that his skills and experience would be too much for the up-and-comer. “He’s obviously well-rounded, I just believe that my skills and my understanding of the game, it’s just going to be that little bit too much for him,” said Alexander.
Furthermore, Volk went on to praise his knockout power and elite boxing skills however, he promised to show Topuria that he is a whole different breed. Alexander Volkanovski also believes that his opponent is gonna come with oozing confidence after his brutal loss to Islam.
