Jon Jones is arguably one of the greatest mixed martial artists in the sport’s history. Not only is he the youngest-ever UFC champion, Jones is also considered the P4P GOAT by many. One of the most talented and naturally gifted athletes of the sport, Jon is known to have many talents.
Aside from his obvious knack for MMA, Jon has been known for his various hobbies and likes. An avid country music fan, and a sneaker enthusiast, Jones has some surprising taste and choices. However, some of his more renowned passions include guns and dogs. Not only is ‘Bones’ the proud owner of a Belgian Malinois, but he also has an entire armory of assault rifles and other weapons.
Often, Jon takes time out to visit the range and run a few drills. According to the 36-year-old, shooting fuels his creativity and competitive nature. Thus, even whilst he is at the range, Jones remains plotting and preparing for his fight. On occasion, he has even had to whip out his firearms to protect himself from unsuspecting intruders.
As a result, many fans have wondered as to whether Jon gets his thirst for the thrill due to his time as a firefighter. However, contrary to what some may believe Jones is not a firefighter, nor has he ever been according to any other source. With that said the opponent for his upcoming fight, Stipe Miocic has been known to be a firefighter for over a decade.
What did Jon Jones say about Stipe Miocic’s firefighter career?
Previously, Jones marked his return from a long layoff with a move up to heavyweight. Taking on Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, Jones made a statement with his dominant submission victory. Claiming the vacant heavyweight title, Jon cemented his legacy as a two-divisional champ and one of the GOATs.
Following the victory, Jones set his sights on the heavyweight GOAT himself, Stipe Miocic. Speaking in the post-fight press conference, the new champ sent a stark warning to his next opponent. “I say this respectfully to Stipe — I would take time off from being a firefighter right now. And I mean that with all due respect.” Naturally, Jones’ comments did not go down too well with the former heavyweight champion.
For the most part, the 41-year-old Ohio native was sworn in as a full-time firefighter in 2022. Moreover, Miocic has often stated that he chooses to be a firefighter due to the humanitarian aspect of the job. Hitting back at Jon’s comments, Stipe said, “I don’t know if he knows this, but I’ve been a fireman the whole time I’ve been in my career in the UFC. Naturally, Miocic seemed a bit miffed by the comment but revealed that it wouldn’t be a big factor.
Following his brutal loss to Francis Ngannou in 2021, Miocic hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon in two years. Unfortunately, due to Jones’ recent injury, the fight has been postponed for the foreseeable future. With both fighters reportedly looking to retire soon, it has brought a lot of questions as to whether the GOAT vs GOAT fight will ever happen.
