This weekend’s UFC Fight Night is going to be one where young up-and-comers have the opportunity to shine. Two such fighters will feature in the main event as Arman Tsarukyan will fight Mateusz Gamrot.
The bout is set to take place in the lightweight division which is going through a change at the moment. With the belt currently being vacant and big stars out of the equation, it is time for fresh blood to take over the division.

Arman Tsarukyan occupies the 11th rank in the 155lbs division. Following his loss to Islam Makhachev in his very first UFC fight, Tsarukyan turned the ship around with 5 back to back wins. While 3 came via decision, Arman finished both Joel Álvarez and Christos Giagos in his last 2 bouts.
Similar to Tsarukyan, Mateusz Gamrot also lost his first UFC bout. He fell short against Guram Kutateladze via split decision. But since then, Gamrot has finished Scott Holtzman, Jeremy Stephens and Carlos Diego Ferreira in his last 3 bouts. He is currently the 12th ranked in the lightweight division.

Can Mateusz Gamrot overcome Arman Tsarukyan?
UFC does not book fighters who are ranked as low as Tsarukyan and Gamrot to be the main event. But that goes to show how high-calibre these two fighters are. So how does a bout between the two play out? Let’s find out.
Arman Tsarukyan is very efficient with his offence inside the Octagon. He lands 3.75 strikes per minute while absorbing 1.36. Tsarukyan also has a high takedown rate of 3.42 per fight.
Mateusz Gamrot has stats that are very much in line with his opponent this Saturday. Gamrot averages 3.79 strikes per minute while absorbing 2.69. But his grappling stats are much more impressive. The Polish fighter finishes 5.83 takedowns per fight. Mateusz also has a takedown defence rate of 100%.

However, the stats do not tell the entire story for this contest. Although Arman’s stats may slightly pale in comparison to Gamrot’s, he will be the favourite to win the bout this weekend. Tsarukyan has shown significant improvements and has impressed the fans with his versatile style of fighting.
Although Gamrot had a very decorated career in amateur wrestling prior to MMA, he will have to work incredibly hard to take Arman down. The same can be said the other way around as well.
Hence, the headliner between Tsarukyan and Gamrot has the potential to be a strike fest. On the feet, Tsarukyan has the advantage as he is the much better striker with more power. Gamrot has shown that he can be dropped when under pressure.
