SUMMARY
- After a brutal defeat at the hands of Alex Pereira at UFC 300, Jamahal Hill will return at UFC 303.
- Recently, Hill revealed exactly why he was allowed to make such a quick turnaround.
Jamahal Hill is the former UFC light heavyweight champion. He had a chance to defeat Alex Pereira at UFC 300 and recapture the title. However, Alex was ultimately too good for him on the night. The champ was laser-focused on one goal and that was to knock Hill out. The Brazilian fighter succeded in doing so at the 3:14 minute mark of the very first round.
While Alex Pereira did not knock Jamahal Hill out cold, he displayed a dominant performance and secured the TKO win. As MMA fans may know, whenever a fighter suffers a major KO/TKO loss, a medical suspension forces the particular fighter to take time off and recover from any lingering injuries or concussion. However, with Hill returning to action at UFC 303, many are wondering how the 32-year-old is able to make such a quick turnaround.
In an interview with MiddleEasy, Hill clarified, “After the fight, they give everybody a medical suspension. After the fight, you just have to go through some pro, you just go through some clearances. You just got to have some doctor’s appointment and go get checked out and get cleared. That’s it.”
Was Hill given any specific medical suspension after the UFC 300 fight? He added, “No they don’t do that. For the most, they just be like ‘Oh you have this suspension.’ They’ll be like ‘Oh we’ll do a 30 days suspension, 60 days suspension, or whatever or until you get cleared by the doctors.”
Hill also added that he was not unconscious at UFC 300. The former champ also added that he only went down as Poatan’s shots affected his equilibrium. Although he lost fair and square, Hill was never out cold.
Jamahal Hill has one major regret about the Alex Pereira fight at UFC 300
Jamahal Hill had to vacate his belt after winning it against Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 in January 2023 due to injury. The Chicago native was out of action for more than a year and finally made his way back to the Octagon in April 2024 with a chance of regaining a belt he never lost. However, unfortunately for Hill, he ran into Alex Pereira who ended the dream in less than a round. Does Jamahal have any regrets about the fight?
Talking about it, the light heavyweight fighter added, “I would have been more of a gritty competition, showed a little less sportsmanship and sh*t, just stayed on my square more through distraction. I would have stayed covered and protected at all times.”
It does look like Hill is not particularly happy with the way the fight ended. However, it is understandable as it was all over before he could even land a significant strike to make his mark on the bout. But, as previously mentioned, “Sweet Dreams” is returning on June 29 to fight Khalil Rountree Jr. It will give him the opportunity to get back to winning ways.
Hill reveals how the Khalil Rountree Jr. fight at UFC 303 came about
UFC 303 will be one of the biggest fight cards in recent memory. Conor McGregor will make his much-anticipated return to fighting on June 29 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He will go up against Michael Chandler and the bout will take place in the welterweight division. McGregor is a giant superstar and the entire world will have its eyes on the card. Hence, getting on the fight card will be a big boost for Jamahal Hill if he can win.

But, how did the fight come to be? He revealed, “I went to them (UFC). Monday, I was sitting, you know. I’m like, ‘Man, I’m fresh, I’m ready to get back into it, I’m ready to fight again.’ So, Sunday actually, Sunday I told my manager, ‘I still feel good, I still feel ready to get back into a fight.’ Monday I got on another call with him and he got on a call with Mick (Maynard) and by Tuesday, we had a contract on its way.”
