Dana White’s long-running feud with Oscar de la Hoya has come to the fore again during the UFC CEO’s latest press conference. White referred to Canelo Alvarez’s comments about de la Hoya to prove that whatever he had been saying about ‘The Golden Boy’ was true.
Alvarez appeared on the Nelk Boys podcast a few days ago. In 2018, the Mexican boxer signed with De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. However, they had a falling out and Alvarez was asked about it during the podcast. He said he was happy to not be associated with De La Hoya anymore.
He said, “Yeah. I’m glad to go away from him. He’s f*cking crazy… I think nobody who knows close (like him). I don’t know, he’s f*cking crazy. He’s hypocrite. He don’t have nothing, no loyal… That’s why he don’t have any fighters left.”
De La Hoya is a promoter and a former professional boxer. He won a gold medal for the USA in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. After retiring, he established the Golden Boy promotions in 2002. In 2018, MMA was also added to the promotion. However, the promotion never reached the levels of other promotions such as the UFC.
De La Hoya also began a feud with White after Conor McGregor was scheduled to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing bout. Since then, the pair have never looked eye-to-eye. Recently, in a press conference, White said, “Whatever I told all of you about him, him being De La Hoya, and what did Canelo say? Yeah, it isn’t just me.”
White referred to Alvarez’s comments about De La Hoya on the Nelk Boys podcast. These were his last words at the press conference, the UFC CEO dropped the mic and left after his jibe at De La Hoya.
Dana White will never be friends with Oscar De La Hoya after their long-running feud
The feud between the pair dates back to 2017 when De La Hoya claimed that the McGregor vs. Mayweather fight disrespected the sport of boxing. Since then, there has been a back-and-forth between them.
De La Hoya even called out White for a fight when the UFC chief was unwilling to let Georges St. Pierre take part in a boxing bout with him.
.@danawhite Quit blocking@GeorgesStPierre’s chance to fight. How about we get into the ring first little B*#ch then after I kick your ass, I’ll fight a real man #DeLaHoyaGSP #LetGSPFight pic.twitter.com/sPKeXpHDDW

However, De La Hoya apologized after years of the feud stating that they can be useful to each other in the future. White accepted the apology but claimed they would never be friends again.
“I feel like De La Hoya’s apology was sincere, but there’s no way that he and I can ever be friends again,” White said during a fan Q&A with GQ Sports (h/t Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “He and I were actually friends. I used to go to his fights. I used to watch his fights, I used to promote his fights. That guy did way too much damage for us to ever be friends again. I appreciate his apology. I get it. We’re cool, but we’re never going to be that cool.”
De La Hoya did not stand back. He tweeted another insult after the UFC chief was spotted having a physical altercation with his wife.
