Arman Tsarukyan is one of the top talents on the UFC roster right now. An up-and-coming prospect in one of the most competitive divisions, Tsarukyan has impressed many. As such, let’s do a deeper dive and try to learn more about him.
For those unaware, Tsarukyan is a Russian-Armenian MMA athlete currently making waves in the UFC. Due to his appearance and his grappling proficiency, many have suspected that he is in fact Dagestani. However, it has been made clear that Arman is in no way related to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, or the rest of their friends and family.
Notably, Tsarukyan made his UFC debut against Islam Makhachev himself. In what has often been referred to as Islam’s toughest fight in the UFC ( aside from the first Alexander Volkanovski fight), Arman truly gave the current champ a run for his money. Over time, Tsarukyan has stayed active and piled up wins against some tricky customers.
During his run to the top, the 27-year-old has bested the likes of Davi Ramos, Matt Frevola, Joel Alvarez, and more. In the UFC, Arman has secured 3 wins by way of KO/TKO and 4 wins via unanimous decision. As such, his only two losses have come against lightweight mainstay Mateusz Gamrot and the champion himself, Islam Makhachev.
Arman Tsarukyan: Ethnicity and Religion
As mentioned previously, Tsarukyan is Russian-Armenian, however, there is much more to it. For those unaware, “Ahalkalakets” was born in Akhalkalaki, Georgia, and fights out of Khabarovsk, Russia. As a result, many have pointed out the Russian influences in his game.
Although there is very little information about his parents, it is rumored that Arman is of Armenian and Georgian ancestry. Thus, some have said that his family is influential in both countries, judging by his surname. At the same time, very little is known about Tsarukyan’s religion as well.

For the most part, many have surmised that the young prospect is likely a Christian. However, this belief is owing to the fact that the majority of the people from his birthplace are mostly Christians. Whilst Tsarukyan has not agreed to or complied with the same, he has not indicated following any other religion either.
In the past, the surging contender has posted about religious conflicts on social media but has never spoken about his own. Thus, it appears that the #8 ranked lightweight is more focused on focusing on his career and ensuring that he is able to realize his dream of becoming a champion.
