UFC 295 was filled with thrilling finishes with every fight in the main card ending in brutal knockouts. Besides that many UFC fighters managed to make some new records with their spectacular wins. Let’s take a look at 5 new UFC records that were created at MSG.
Alex Pereira becomes a two-division champion
In the main event, Alex Pereira knocked out Jiri Prochazka to become the 9th UFC fighter to win UFC titles in two different divisions. With 7 UFC fights in his UFC career, Pereira has won 2 titles and beaten 4 former and current UFC champions.
All the UFC two division champions
- Conor McGregor
- Amanda Nunes
- Henry Cejudo
- Daniel Cormier
- Jon Jones
- BJ Penn
- Georges St-Pierre
- Randy Couture
- Alex Pereira
Tom Aspinall becomes the 3rd UFC champion from the UK
Michael Bisping started it and now UFC has two champions from the UK. Leon Edwards knocked out Kamaru Usman to become the UFC welterweight champion. On the other hand, Tom Aspinall knocked out Sergei Pavlovich to become the third-ever British UFC champion.
Tom Aspinall might not get an opportunity to fight Stipe Miocic or Jon Jones in the future. But, he is already considered one of the best heavyweights of all time despite his lack of experience in MMA.
Winning a UFC title fight on short notice is tougher than fans realize. We recently saw Alexander Volkanovski pay the price for showing up to Islam Makhachev’s rematch without a full camp.
However, Tom Aspinall defied all the odds and won the UFC interim heavyweight title on 2 weeks’ notice. This win seems extra special considering the fact that Michael Bisping also became the first-ever British UFC champion on 2-week notice by knocking out Luke Rockhold in round 1.
Lupita Godinez makes UFC history
Lupita Godinez (12-3) took on Tabatha Ricci in the UFC 295 prelims. This is the 4th win for Godinez in 2023. Ever since her win in April 2023 at UFC 287, Lupita Godinez has beaten 4 UFC strawweights.
UFC smashes another record at MSG
UFC 295 generated $12.43 million in revenue with ticket sales as 19,039 MMA fans witnessed the spectacular fights on the card. This is the biggest gate for UFC in 2023 and one of the biggest gates in MSG ever.
Jessica Andrade scored 4 knockdowns against Mackenzie Dern
Jessica Andrade secured a dominant victory over Mackenzie Dern at UFC 295. Both Andrade and Dern have been through a lot in their personal life this year. However, Andrade showed up prepared with a perfect game plan and executed it brilliantly.
Jessica Andrade defended Dern’s takedown attempts easily and forced her into a striking battle. She knocked down Dern at the end of the first round and knocked her down 3 more times before the fight was stopped in the second round.
