Novak Djokovic still has the hunger to get going even at this age. The 20-time grand slam winner had a fantastic 2021 year. This year, he won 3 out of 4 grand slams. In the fourth one though, he reached the finals losing out to Daniil Medvedev. Though, he revenged for his loss by winning the ATP Paris Masters earlier this month. In the finals, he defeated the US Open champ, Daniil Medvedev.
Recently the Serbian managed to create another record. He now holds the record for holding the number one spot for most time in men’s history (7). He overtook Pete Sampras and created history. Recently in an interview, he was asked about his retirement from the sport. What did the Serbian respond to that? Here’s everything that you need to know.

Novak Djokovic on Retirement
Novak Djokovic was presented with the year ending as no 1 trophy post his match against Casper Rudd in the ATP Finals. The match was won comfortably by Novak Djokovic 7-6, 6-2. In the post-match conference, when he was presented with the trophy, he was asked bout his retirement from the sport. Responding to that, he said that he hopes to play the sport for two more years. “Yes, the dream goes on and I hope to play this sport two more years,” said Novak.
But the Serbian was quick to correct his statement. He later told that he does not have any number in his mind and wants to play till his body allows him to. “I don’t have a number in my mind of the years I still want to play at this level. “I don’t have a limit. I don’t want to impose a limit on myself at all, because I still enjoy playing tennis, and I really enjoy competition and playing at the highest level. Being No 1 in the world, there is no reason for me yet to think about leaving tennis.” continued Novak Djokovic.
#Djokovic on “wanting to play for two years”: Hahah, no, no, I didn’t mean it that way. I said COUPLE in Italian. I don’t have a number and I don’t want to impose a limit on myself. There is no reason for me to think about leaving tennis. #NittoATPFinals

“I take care of my body along with my team pretty well, so I believe it won’t be for the injury actually, I hope it won’t be for that, that it will come on my own terms, whenever that moment arrives, that I’ll be very clear with myself that that’s it, you know, that chapter of my life is done, that I can move on,” claimed the world number 1 player.
The Serbian is the oldest player competing in this year’s edition of the Nitto ATP Finals. Despite this fact, he still manages to go strong even at this age and still shows the hunger to get going at the top stage.
