The WBO junior welterweight titleholder, Teofimo Lopez, stepped into the boxing ring to face Jamaine Ortiz at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. It went as many had predicted, with Lopez walking out with his fourth straight victory. The light welterweight was a favorite going into the fight, which many believed would be an easy victory for him based on his current form and reputation.
The knockout artist holds a professional boxing record of 20-1. Out of these wins, 13 have come through knockout, although Lopez couldn’t deliver the same result this time. Many had predicted him to score another finish, including himself, being confident about it. His opponent Ortiz had won his last bout against Antonio Moran after suffering a loss against Vasily Lomachenko in 2022.

The bout went all the way, which the fans didn’t expect. Even so, the 12-round fight wouldn’t be considered close at any point except a highly intense first round. Lopez was able to quickly dominate the technical fighter, who didn’t seem to have the answers to the champion’s striking. This ensured the American pro boxer retained his title after winning it against Josh Taylor in June last year.

Although both fighters did land some good shots, Lopez was more successful in closing the distance at times, while Ortiz seemed to be more in a defensive mode.
