Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams were undoubtedly two of the greatest tennis players of all time. The Williams sisters were a force to be reckoned with throughout their careers, breaking records along the way. However, as influential as they were on the tennis court, they created history off it too.
The Williams sisters were the first Black women to become minority owners of an NFL side. Serena and Venus created history, as they secured a stake in Miami Dolphins back in 2009.
Stephen Ross bought 50% of the team in 2008. The following year, he purchased another 45% of the side for $1.1 billion. Serena and Venus became minority owners of the team that same year.
When the Williams sisters became minority owners of the team, it had a value of $1.2 billion. Forbes reports that 14 years later, its valuation has soared to over $4.6 billion. As of August, the current value of the Miami Dolphins stands at $5.7 billion.

Ross had expressed his thrill at having Serena and Venus team up with him. The sisters too were excited by the prospect of joining the NFL side as owners.
“I am so excited to be part of such a renowned organization. Having spent so much of my childhood in the area, being involved with a staple of Miami culture is a huge honor. We look forward to many championships and much success together with the Miami Dolphins,” said Serena.
Serena Williams and her sister Venus are successful businesswomen. Over the years, both of them have ventured into different business fields, thus expanding their portfolio.
Serena Williams has invested in other sports too
Both Venus and Serena have invested in a number of different fields over the years. Venus has her own clothing line called EleVen by Venus Williams. Serena, on the other hand, has invested in another sports team- the women’s soccer team, Angel City FC.
Angel City FC was launched in 2020 to expand the NWSL franchises. Besides Serena, the list of investors is very impressive, consisting of Natalie Portman and Eva Longoria.

Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their daughter Olympia Ohanian are also investors of the soccer team. This venture made Olympia the youngest-ever co-owner of a sports team.
Serena Williams’ love for soccer is known. She was present during Lionel Messi’s MLS debut for Inter Miami. Williams is also the proud co-owner of a soccer team. There is no field that Serena has not conquered yet.
