Tatiana Suarez is one of the most talented fighters in the UFC. However, her career has been ravaged by injuries so far. From June 2019 to February 2023, Suarez lost almost 4 years of her career due to neck and knee injuries. Although it was prior to her MMA career, Tatiana also recovered from thyroid cancer in the early 2010s. After the culmination of her amateur wrestling career, Tatiana focused her attention on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
The California native got her taste for MMA when she started practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She already had a great wrestling pedigree and it turned out that she was a natural when it came to BJJ. She won bronze medals in the 2008 and 2010 Wrestling World Championships. However, Suarez won the top prize in the 2013 and 2015 World Jiu-Jitsu Championships.
Transitioning to MMA from BJJ is very common and so was the case for Suarez. She made her amateur debut in February 2014 and defeated Elizabeth Rodriguez via TKO. In March of the same year, Tatiana beat Jessica Pryor in her second and final MMA fight. Her first pro-MMA fight was against Tyra Parker at Gladiator Challenge: Night of the Champions. So how did her career go since then? Let’s find out!
How many losses does Tatiana Suarez have in her MMA career?
In her debut, Tatiana Suarez beat Tyra Parker via unanimous decision on July 19, 2014. The fight was for the vacant flyweight title of the promotion. Hence, she became the Gladiator Challenge women’s flyweight champ on the night. Her second pro fight was against Carolina Alvarez and she beat her on April 11, 2015. Tatiana then earned the first KO win of her career against Arline Coban.
However, that was her last fight before joining the UFC. In 2016, she joined TUF 23 and took part in the competition as a strawweight. Under Claudia Gadelha’s coaching, she beat Chel-C Bailey, JJ Aldrich, and Kate Jackson in the TUF house. However, those fights do not count in her pro record as they were exhibition fights. But even then, nobody managed to beat her.
On the TUF finale, she once again got a submission, as she choked out Amanda Cooper with a D’Arce choke. Aside from getting the UFC contract, she also bagged $50K as a Performance of the Night bonus, the only one of her UFC run.
She was unstoppable following her UFC debut and went on to beat Viviane Pereira, Alexa Grasso, Carla Esparza, and Nina Nunes. She has a pro record of 8-0.
