Shakira has had her world flipped upside-down over the past year. The Colombian superstar has been through a lot, from her father’s ailments to her ex-partner’s infidelity. Shakira felt “betrayed” by her former partner Gerard Pique, during a time when her father was in the ICU.
Shakira’s father, William Mebarak Chadid flew to Barcelona to comfort his daughter after the news of her separation from the ex-Barcelona center-back reached him. Shakira told People en Español, “He went to Barcelona to console me after I was consumed with sadness because of my separation.”
Shakira then said that her father Chadid, 91, was “gravely injured”, after suffering from a fall at Shakira’s son Milan’s first communion. She continued, “Everything happened at once. My home was falling apart. I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU.”
Shakira and her father share a very close bond. She considers him her “best friend” and frequents him for advice when she needs it. However, his poor health had made him unavailable in a time of distress, and Shakira couldn’t turn to him for support and advice. She said, “The man I have loved the most in my life, my father, was leaving me when I needed him the most.”
Luckily, Chadid is making a swift recovery. As he has overcome his fall, his beloved daughter has expressed her admiration for his “resilience” and for his commitment to his marriage to Shakira’s mother, Nidia Ripoll Torrado.
Both Shakira and Pique have moved on since breaking up
Life hasn’t slowed down for the former couple. Shakira has since shifted her base to Miami, and her music career has been on an upward trend ever since. The Colombian singer and dancer have released the record-breaking Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53, with Bizarrap, an Argentine producer and singer.
Amongst other hits was “TQG”, with Karol G, where Shakira talked about how it hurt to see Gerard Pique with his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.
Pique too hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. Since hanging up his boots, he has furthered his business ventures, notably the Kings League. He has also made his relationship with his current partner Clara Chia Marti official, the two have even been spotted at spots across Barcelona and even attended Pique’s brother Marc’s wedding recently.
Shakira has gone on record to express her disdain for her former beau. On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she said that she put up with “so much cr*p” with Pique. Since then, she has sparked dating rumors with F1 ace Lewis Hamilton and even Tom Cruise. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Both Shakira and Gerard Pique seem to have moved on from each other. Questions can be asked of Pique, but he has come out to say that he will not apologize for his actions as he believes he has been faithful to himself, as per his interview with El Pais. Meanwhile, Shakira continues to dominate the charts and is excited about this new chapter in her career.
