Jesse Marsch is a name that has been leading the managerial charge for Americans in European soccer. The former MLS player turned his head towards management in 2010. He started his career under Bob Bradley as the assistant manager for the US national team. The work with the national team allowed him opportunities at CF Montréal, Princeton Tigers, and New York Red Bulls in North America before moving to European soccer.
The 50-year-old joined RB Leipzig as assistant manager under Ralf Rangnick in 2018. His work under the former Manchester United manager allowed him to manage RB Salzburg as the head coach in 2019. The progression under the Red Bull clubs was completed when he returned to RB Leipzig as the lead manager in 2021.
Marsch’s spell with the Bundesliga side turned out to be disastrous, as the German club sacked him after only 20 games. The American manager had quite a CV up to this point, which allowed him a shot at the Premier League with Leeds United.
The spell with the English side turned out to be another average stint, with the only highlight coming in October 2022 when he recorded a 2-1 win over Liverpool. The win went down in history books as it was the first Premier League loss at Anfield for Dutch defender, Virgil van Dijk.

Marsch managed the Bundesliga side for all 20 games, in which he managed to win only seven while losing nine. This led to his sacking within 157 days. The story continued at Leeds, where he managed the side for 37 games but only managed to win 11 games.
Marsch has been out of a job since February but is being named to take over Birmingham City after the sacking of Wayne Rooney. Considering that Marsch was managing a top Bundesliga for only two years, a job in the second division in England is disappointing. However, it might be the last chance for the American manager to win back his fans and silence his critics.
