Joao Felix is still finding his feet when it comes to settling into the overall playing style of Xavier Hernandez’s FC Barcelona. However, the 24-year-old forward has made an impact since his arrival at the La Liga-based club in the month of September 2023.
In his first 16 matches for FC Barcelona, Joao Felix has registered four goals and three assists to his name. The 24-year-old joined Barca after his underwhelming loan move to Premier League club Chelsea from Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese player has a contract with Barca that runs till June 2024.
As per a recently published report by ‘BarcaTimes’ on ‘X’, Joao had something to say in his recent post-match interview. Barca’s number 14 reflected his thoughts on their Champions League encounter against FC Porto. Despite a win for his team, he seemed quite diplomatic while expressing his opinions.
The Portugal international stated- “We were late to enter the game and our reaction was after their goal. We have to fix it. Today we fixed things, but in other games, we might not do it”. The number 14 further inflicted that he always goes into a match with the thought of doing his “best”.

Joao insisted, “The important thing is to help my teammates”. He asserted that it’s his main motive, however, if he can also contribute by scoring a goal that’s “all the better”. Reflecting on his goal against FC Porto he expressed that he’s goal was crucial for his team. “In football (soccer) a player can very suddenly go from best to worst and the opposite can also happen”, he pressingly stated.
It can be inferred from the statements of the player that he seemed satisfied by the fact that Barcelona was able to come back in the game against Porto, and his goal proved an important one. But, he also knows that in soccer things can change pretty quickly and they would need to consistently maintain their good form.
Joao Felix shines in a crucial Champions League win for Barcelona
Barcelona trailed earlier in their important Champions League clash against Porto. The visiting Portuguese side scored in the 30th minute of the game, to go into a 0-1 lead. FC Porto’s defender Pepe scored the opening goal of the match.
However, Barca struck back quickly and equalized with Joa Cancelo scoring just after two minutes. The match went into the first half with a scoreline of 1-1. When the second half began, both the teams seemed cautious in their play, maybe trying not to give the opponent another chance to score.
Just when it seemed like, any of the teams could win it, Barcelona’s Joao Felix scored in the 57th minute, to give the Spanish side a 2-1 lead. The forward’s goal proved sufficient for his team to see out the remainder of the game, without conceding again.
His goal gave Barca an important three points. With this win, the La Liga club climbed to the first spot in their Champions League Group H table with 12 points. They have now won four out of their first five matches in the competition this season. Also, the club has now secured its position in the knock-out stages of the tournament.
