Hugo Lloris is set to leave Tottenham for free to join Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer, capping off an incredible 11-and-a-half-year career. After spending some time on the sidelines at Spurs, the French goalkeeper will depart with somewhat of a sigh. He was on £100,000 ($127,399) a week at Tottenham Hotspur but now will be leaving the English side for the MLS club.
Leading sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has approved the move, saying that Lloris will be joining the American team permanently instead of just on a six-month loan. It is uncertain if Tottenham will be compensated in any way for the move. Lloris will agree to a one-year contract with LAFC, with the possibility of renewal for additional seasons, however, his salary has not yet been revealed as per various reports.

His standing among some of the most significant individuals in the club’s recent history, however, is undeniable. He amassed 447 matches in all competitions while serving as captain for the past eight seasons, and he has a long list of exceptional performances. Aside from the fact that he will likely leave Spurs quietly, Lloris’s biggest regret will be that he was unable to bring home a title.
It remains to be seen how Hugo Lloris will embark on his new journey in the MLS, he will be joining famous soccer legends Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and many more in the MLS. LAFC will be getting a stellar keeper in Hugo Lloris.
Hugo Lloris reveals that OGC Nice lacked clarity in the sporting sense during an offer made to him
At the beginning of June 2023, Lloris declared that he had “desires for other things,” that it was “the end of an era” for him at Spurs, and that he may forego the pre-season tour of Australia, Thailand, and Singapore to concentrate on finding a new team.
It never came to pass as Lloris turned down offers from Saudi Arabia, Lazio, and his hometown club, Nice, from which he had begun his career, on the day of the English transfer deadline. Lloris has clarified that Nice’s offer was unclear from a sports standpoint and arrived too late.

Lloris said, “The supporters [of Nice] and the team deserve better than a split-second decision based on a phone call without expectations or a clear sporting project with one hour until the closure of the window at a time where I wasn’t expecting it.”
This was quite a huge statement made by the World Cup winner regarding the French side, however, it seemed to backfire on him as OGC Nice is performing extremely well in the French league and a move would have been the best option for Lloris. Nevertheless, he has now agreed to join MLS side LAFC and will be joining them for the new MLS 2024 season.
