Joao Cancelo has been sensational for FC Barcelona since moving from Manchester City in the summer on a loan deal. There has been speculation in the last few months about the future of the Portuguese fullback. The main pushback for FC Barcelona has been the asking price of Manchester City.
As per Roger Torelló, FC Barcelona has decided to sign Cancelo permanently in the summer of 2024. The asking price of Manchester City is around $27 (€25M) million. For any other club, this asking price for a player like Cancelo wouldn’t be a problem but FC Barcelona’s financial struggles in the last few years are well documented. They will try to reduce the asking price even more.

The current loan deal of Cancelo ends in the summer of 2024. The current contract of the Portuguese fullback with Manchester City runs till 2027. The English side has time on their side but Cancelo might force a move to FC Barcelona next summer for regular playing time which is guaranteed in Spain.
Fans of the Spanish club have called the asking price of Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City a bargain. In their opinion, Cancelo can cover multiple positions in the squad and provide immense value to the team with his attacking attributes.

Joao Cancelo won the MVP award against Porto to lead Barcelona into UCL Knockouts
The news from Roger Torelló came after probably the best performance from Cancelo in an FC Barcelona jersey. The Portuguese full-back helped the Spanish side come from behind to win 2-1 against FC Porto. With the victory, the Spanish side booked their place in the knockout rounds of the UCL. This is the first time Barcelona has moved passed the group stage after the exit of Lionel Messi in 2021.
Cancelo won the MVP award for his performance against Porto. He scored the opener and provided the assist for Joao Felix’s winner. He completed six of his eight dribbles and also completed 27 of 30 passes with a success rate of 90%. Not only that, but he also won the ball back three times in the 90 minutes of the match to complete an all-round performance.

This season, Cancelo has scored three goals and two assists in 16 games in all competitions for FC Barcelona. Only João Félix, Ferran Torres, and Robert Lewandowski have scored more goals than the full-back. Judging by his all-round statistics, Cancelo can prove to be a bargain, if Barcelona can land him for around $27 million in 2024.
