SUMMARY
- Chelsea faced Liverpool for the finals of Carabao Cup.
- Liverpool beats Chelsea in the finals by 1-0.
Chelsea suffered a defeat at the hands of fellow Premier League club Liverpool in the much anticipated Carabao Cup Final. The Blues were in with an opportunity to get their hands on the silverware but missed out on the back of a disappointing 0-1 loss to the Reds.
After the match, Chelsea players seemed quite disappointed with their performance and the result which didn’t go in their favor. They were climbing back on the stairs of the Wembley heading back to the dressing room. Just then an awkward incident happened with the Blues midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
One of the Liverpool fans from the stands shouted towards Enzo Fernandez – “Enzo!, unlucky lad!” and the fan started laughing weirdly after getting into sight of the Blues player. Enzo didn’t seem to like the way the fan behaved. He gave him a deadly stare before continuing towards the changing room. The fan though continued his wicked laugh.
Chelsea’s lackluster performance against a young Liverpool side
Mauricio Pochettino-led Chelsea was never really able to get a grip on the Carabao Cup final match against Liverpool. Despite facing a young side led out on the field by the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, Chelsea seemed fuzzed by the occasion and looked under pressure.
The Londoners had a decent number of shots on goal but failed to score even a single one. The speed at which they passed the ball seemed quite slow. Also, Pochettino’s side lacked cutting edge in the final third. This was a decent opportunity to eradicate their below-par performances in recent times. But, the players pretty much squandered the chance.
Garry Neville takes a dig at Chelsea after the Carabao Cup final loss
English Soccer Pundit Garry Neville wasn’t too impressed with Chelsea’s performance in the all-important Carabao Cup final at Wembley. The 49-year-old was critical of the way the Blues approached the game against a Liverpool team that rested some of their big players and gave a chance to quite a lot of youngsters.

Garry Neville ironically targeted the Blues hierarchy and labeled them as – “Billion Pound Bottle Job”. It is noteworthy that the Premier League club has spent about a billion pounds in the transfer market on acquiring a decent number of players. But, yet their on-field performances don’t speak of a team who had spent a fortune to compete at the highest level.
The former England player has also previously been critical of the way the club has performed in the Premier League. His opinion wasn’t too different after the loss against Liverpool as well. As far as things are concerned for the Blues, they have to put this performance in the past and focus on the fixtures coming up.
