Alejandro Garnacho is the talk of the week after scoring a sensational overhead kick against Everton in the Premier League. The Argentine winger was discussed on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, where the Manchester United legend revealed some interesting observations.
Talking on the Vibe with Five podcast, Ferdinand compared two overhead goals scored by two different Manchester United players. On one side, it was the iconic overhead goal scored by Wayne Rooney against Manchester City in 2011 and on the other side it was Garnacho’s goal against Everton.

In Ferdinand’s opinion, Garancho’s goal was better. He explained: “Garnacho. One was off a shin pad, the other was off his boot. I’m sorry, Wazza. That goal is better than Rooney’s. He was running away from the goal, a bit further away from the goal, at an angle. It was unbelievable, breathtaking moment.”
Garnacho’s goal was also compared with Cristiano Ronaldo’s overhead kick against Juventus in the UCL for Real Madrid in 2018. The Argentine winger paid two tributes to Ronaldo after he scored his overhead-kick goal to fuel the comparison on social media.
Rio Ferdinand’s son revealed that Lionel Messi has unfollowed Alejandro Garnacho
Circling back to Rio Ferdinand, the former English international discussed an interesting observation that was brought to his knowledge by his son. As per Ferdinand’s son, Lionel Messi has unfollowed Garnacho due to his open admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ferdinand revealed: “My lad said to me the other day Messi unfollowed him [Garnacho]. He said Messi’s unfollowed him. Because he comes out, don’t care, ‘I’m a Ronaldo man’. Who’s the GOAT? Ronaldo. (Even) when he’s in the Argentina squad.”

At present, Lionel Messi follows 307 people on Instagram, and Garnacho isn’t one of them. It is unclear whether Messi followed Garnacho earlier and unfollowed him recently, or didn’t follow him from the start.
The 19-year-old Argentine winger has been vocal about his admiration for Ronaldo. He has always paid homage to the Portuguese icon through his celebrations and often commented that Ronaldo is the greatest of all time. Being an Argentine, Garnacho falls under a rare group of Argentine people who prefer Ronaldo to Messi in the eternal GOAT debate.
Garnacho’s stance in the GOAT debate along with his nationality has often grabbed headlines. The Argentine winger was lucky to share a dressing room with his idol during Ronaldo’s second stint with Manchester United. With this incredible goal, the winger will hope that the surrounding coverage is focused on his on-field exploits rather than his off-field comments.
