Alejandro Garnacho is the talk of the town after his wonder goal against Everton in the Premier League. After the goal, the online discourse was surrounding the similarity between the Argentine winger and Cristiano Ronaldo. These comparisons were addressed by Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes.
Garnacho scored the overhead kick in the 3rd minute of the game to light up social media. All the initial reactions compared the goal with Ronaldo’s overhead against Juventus in the UCL. Moreover, Wayne Rooney’s overhead goal against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes was among the first in the Manchester United camp to address these comparisons. He commented: “It’s amazing, something out of this world, I think, probably he’s watching too many Cristiano clips. We all know that he’s a big fan”.
Fernandes added that Garnacho is not in the same league as Ronaldo: “There is still a long way for him to be like Cristiano, but he’s getting his steps. He wants to be something special in the world of football (soccer), and I think he has the capability to do that, but he has to do more than that goal”.

The comments from Fernandes hold weight when fans look at the numbers of the Argentine winger. The 19-year-old has played 53 games for Manchester United. In those appearances, he has scored only seven goals and five assists. The wonder goal showcases the abilities of the winger. However, he has to increase his output and improve his consistency in order to match his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Fans spotted two tributes by Alejandro Garnacho to Cristiano Ronaldo after his wonder goal
Garnacho’s over-head kick gave the Argentine winger a perfect opportunity to pay homage to his idol and former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo. Fans on social media spotted two tributes in the celebrations by the winger. The first one was pretty obvious; Garnacho raised the corner flag and hit the trademark ‘SIUUUU’ celebration of Ronaldo.
Alejandro Garnacho’s bicycle kick against Everton was almost identical to Wayne Rooney’s iconic bicycle kick against Man City.

The second one followed after the first celebration. Garnacho hit Ronaldo’s ‘I am here’ celebration by pointing to the turf. The celebration was his way of announcing that he is here and that he is here to stay. The wing position at Manchester United is up for grabs due to purple patches for Marcus Rashford, out-of-form Antony, and a public spat between Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag.
The goal will surely provide some wiggle room for the Argentine winger as the English club mitigates on and off-field changes ahead of the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe. With this goal, Garnacho is set to start for Manchester United in a crucial away fixture in Turkey against Galatasaray in the UCL. The English club needs a win to keep their hopes alive and make it into the knockout stages of the competition.
