SUMMARY
- Overwatch 2 has had a very rocky start ever since it took on the mantle from Overwatch.
- Overwatch 2's Season 9 is the latest for the game but it has one big issue.
Blizzard Entertainment released Overwatch in 2016, and since then there has been no looking back. The game is set in the multiplayer first-person shooting genre. Blizzard came out with Overwatch after they canceled a previously planned multiplayer game. This game marked the entry of the developer’s fourth main franchise.
Overwatch has received critical acclaim and has been received well by the fans. Even after all these years, the game still has a dedicated player base. The game further helped Blizzard to increase its footing in the industry.
However, things were not the same when Blizzard launched Overwatch 2. The second game received mixed reviews and has been plagued by in-game issues. Therefore, Blizzard plans to change this scene with the launch of Season 9.
Overwatch 2’s Season 9 file size
This new season will be released to significantly improve the game. Therefore this season will definitely come at a price. According to the developer at Blizzard, the Season 9 patch will be a “rebase patch.” This was stated by Overwatch 2’s community manager Kaedi.
To clarify, these rebase patches aim to reduce the overall file size of games by combining patch data into the game’s base files, but they also temporarily increase the amount of space needed on the installed hard drive.
Therefore, players will need a minimum of 38 GB of space on their drive for the Season 9 patch to finish its update process. However, it will also be possible to completely remove and reinstall Overwatch 2 if players, for whatever reason, do not have this required space on their system.
But players should keep in mind that the massive requirement of 38 GB of free space needed for the Season 9 update is only temporary since it is a rebase patch, and is only used during the download. Players won’t have to allocate the 38 GB space always to Overwatch 2 because it will only be used during the installation process.
Changes coming to Overwatch 2 Season 9
The Season 9 update is also called the “Champions” update and will bring with it the “Gauntlet” which is a Hero Mastery course. The new season will also introduce a PvE event centered around an investigation headed by Moira, one of Talon’s villainous scientists. A revamp of the Pharah, major changes to all Hero health pools, and also self-healing can be anticipated by the players.
There will also be significant changes to the Competitive Play element of the game, including a new rank and Jade weapon skins that can be purchased with Competitive Points by players.
As confirmed by the developer, Season 9 of Overwatch 2 is all set to go live on February 13, 2024. Players should also keep in mind that the Season 8 Battle Pass will expire on this date at about 10 AM/ 2 PM ET / 6 PM GMT, and be replaced by the new season.
