Mikey Musumeci lays down the law for BJJ training community
Mikey Musumeci has sounded off on unnecessary injuries suffered during BJJ training. In a lengthy rant posted on his Instagram page, the American star offered his take after several followers reached out for advice on avoiding mishaps on the mats.
“Injuring people in training // MIKEY RANTS 😂 – it’s crazy it’s 2024 and this is still I big issue; I receive so many messages about this! My thoughts on it 🙂 what are your thoughts ? 😊,” he wrote in the caption.
During his tirade, Musumeci pointed the finger at BJJ practitioners who go too hard when rolling.

“One of the biggest issues I hear from people is getting injured in training… Now, obviously jiu-jitsu is a contact sport and in any contact sport there will be injuries. But what I’m referring to, is those people that explode on positions. That is unacceptable, and it’s so common still that people are getting injured like this.”
“So, lets discuss why this happens in training. Typically, there are two reasons that people get injured in training from submissions. The first reason is that your ego is so bad that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to win that roll, even if you injure your training partners. Then you can go home and celebrate ‘ooh I won that roll’ or tell people ‘I submitted that person.’ The second reason is that you lack technique.”
“Obviously, I train very hard every day. But if you injure your training partners, what’s the point? You have no-one to train with then!”
Musumeci is back in his adopted home of Southeast Asia after spending time training and visiting his family in his native United States. The Evolve MMA representative is beginning preparations for his next fight in Thailand before heading back to his home base of Singapore.
