SUMMARY
- Demetrious Johnson is the ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion.
- Mikey Musumeci, on the other hand, is the ONE Grappling World Champion.
ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Demetrious Johnson has conquered his weight bracket in the world’s top two organizations. He’s beaten everyone there is to beat and done everything there is to do – except one thing.
ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong recently made an appearance on “The Schaub Show” with Brendan Schaub to discuss the state of ONE Championship and many of its superstars, including “Mighty Mouse.”
Sityodtong was full of praise for the ONE flyweight MMA king, appreciating his greatness as well as Johnson’s willingness to do what no man in MMA has done before in fighting ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon and winning.

But with that said, Sityodtong wants to see Johnson collide with ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci in another mixed rules super-fight.
“DJ is in that zone where he’s really cemented his status as the GOAT, having won world titles in UFC and ONE,” Sityodtong said. “On top of that, he went toe-to-toe in a mixed rules super-fight with Rodtang, who’s one of the best strikers on the planet. Who would do that? DJ has done it all.”
“The only thing I think is left that I’d like to see him do is another mixed rules super-fight with Mikey Musumeci. That would be interesting considering Musumeci is pound-for-pound the best grappler in the world.”
The encounter would certainly make for a thrilling showcase, especially since Musumeci has been stationed in Thailand to work on his Muay Thai striking ahead of an eventual transition into MMA.
Could Demetrious Johnson return to MMA in late 2024?
ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong has confirmed that ONE Championship will return to the U.S. for two events in late 2024, and that could potentially mean the return of ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Demetrious Johnson.
At this stage of his career, there are more bouts behind “Mighty Mouse” than there are ahead of him. And if that can rule out the need to travel across the world to compete, the likelihood of Johnson competing on home soil feels like a strong possibility.

And with ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Jarred Brooks, ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci, and numerous other contenders looking to step in the Circle against Johnson, the American superstar has many options to choose from should he return this year.
