WWE Monday Night Raw’s August 21 episode was filled with some great surprises and a number of hard-hitting contests. But another thing that attracted a lot of fans’ attention was the storyline between World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura.
This feud started just two weeks ago, but it got really interesting after Nakamura whispered something in Rollins’ ear in Japanese. This happened on the August 14 episode of RAW, and what made fans curious to know about The King of Strong Style’s comments was Seth’s reaction.
Responding to all speculations about what Shinsuke said, WWE posted a conversation with the former US Champion. In the video, Nakamura talks in Japanese and reveals what he whispered to the reigning World Champion. He said to Seth, “I know about your back“. (Via: Cageside Seats)
Additionally, The King of Strong Style also talked about the regular back pain Rollins lives with despite being one of the most successful active performers in Triple H’s company. Nakamura also took some personal shots at him, as he claimed that Seth’s back is in pain, even when he hugs his wife or picks up his child.
It must be noted that the former Shield member has had back issues for a long time now, and adding this element to the storyline has made the feud really personal. As Shinsuke will try his level best to take advantage of his opponent’s pain, Rollins will try to do his best to make sure it fails, as this plot can be really dangerous for his in-ring career.
Why does Shinsuke Nakamura speak in Japanese during WWE promos?
Many of you may have known Nakamura since he joined the Stamford-based promotion, but he has been one of the most decorated performers in his home country, Japan. The 43-year-old still holds the record for being the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion and was among the most reputed names in the company.
As the former NXT Champion was born and brought up in Japan, Japanese is his first language. He can speak English, but not as fluently as his mother tongue. With the kind of importance mic skills hold in the Triple-H-led promotion, the company may feel that it’s better to have Nakamura talk the way he’s the most comfortable. This might be the reason why Shinsuke speaks in Japanese during WWE promos.
Has Shinsuke Nakamura’s lack of English taken a toll on his success?
It has always been a point of discussion whether the NJPW veteran has been successful in his journey with Triple H’s company or not. While the answer may vary as per your personal opinions, one thing’s for sure: Nakamura has not been able to replicate his past success in the Triple-H-led promotion.
Despite being one of the most technically correct wrestlers in the world, not being able to win the top prize in WWE has been a big miss for the superstar. Although there can be other reasons behind it, most of the fans feel that the Japanese star’s lack of English took a toll on his success. It feels a bit true too, as there’s no way a performer like Shinsuke doesn’t reach the top of the division in any promotion.
The NJPW legend’s English may have compelled the WWE to give him a run with the world title, but looking at how he delivered his best WWE promo on the recent RAW episode. It seems that the company has finally decided to pull the trigger on him with his Japanese microphone skills alone. Will he be able to beat Seth Rollins for his World title at Payback? Only time will tell.
