Logan Paul was once one of the most popular YouTubers on the planet. Having made the transition from Vine, Logan’s content underwent a massive change. However, as it turns out, this shift would end up in one of his most career-defining acts as well.
Previously, at the height of his YouTube career, ‘The Maverick’ was known for his vlogs. Supposedly vlogging close to 90% of his day, Paul began living a life on the edge in order to drum up as much attention as possible. Naturally, he had managed to garner a solid audience already, however, his aim was to push even further.
Eventually, his quest led him to the Aokigahara forest in the Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan. Whilst he had already caused a ruckus in the streets of Tokyo, his trip to the suicide forest was the turning point of his career. In one of the most shocking moments in YouTube history, Logan Paul documented a man who had hanged himself from a tree. Before the video could be taken down, it had already been viewed by millions.
Logan Paul reveals his initial plan for the Suicide Forest
Following the incident, Logan Paul understandably faced a lot of backlash. Following the incident, YouTube immediately cut its ties with the Ohio native. Soon thereafter, Logan would see his name dragged through the mud, and become perhaps the most hated person on the planet.
Unfortunately, the apology he released shortly afterward received incredible amounts of hate and did the influencer no favors.
Speaking about it in a recent interview with Graham Bensinger, Logan revealed what his original intention was when he decided to go to the Suicide Forest in Japan.
“I remember the original plan being trying to play into the haunted aspect of the forest. I’d seen it go viral on Facebook once and I saw a Vice documentary about it once. I happened to be in Japan, and I needed some content for the day. So we got a bunch of camping equipment, we were gonna go camp out the forest and pretend like it was haunted.”
Unfortunately, what ended up happening was something entirely different as very early into their adventure, they chanced upon a recently deceased person. Instead of going their own way and mentioning it in passing, Logan and his crew decided to shoot it on video and then post the same on YouTube. To date, it remains Logan Paul’s most regrettable act that he has ever done.
What did Jake Paul make of the Aokigahara forest incident?
As it turns out, the backlash of the Suicide Forest controversy was not only binding on Logan Paul but also on his family and younger brother, Jake Paul. A booming social media star in his own right, Jake seemingly faced a lot of blowback due to him being Logan’s brother.
In the aforementioned interview with Graham Bensinger, Jake also touched on a lot of things related to his brother. Among the things they touched on was how the ordeal affected the younger brother and his progress as an influencer.
“I think he was a f***ing egotistical d**k, narcissist, and that put him in f***ing check. I would try to tell him, that he was that way. I would just tell him, ‘You’re not a good person.'”
“I got lumped into it, just by association of having the same last name. I got canceled too, I had to rebuild my whole business, because of what Logan did, and by the way, Logan you still haven’t apologized.
“….because he ruined my life, just by having the same last name.”
Moreover, Jake also revealed that he still harbors a lot of resentment against Logan Paul, seeing that he hasn’t apologized about this or the fact that he slept with Jake’s ex-girlfriend Alissa Violet as well. All things considered, both brothers still have a lot of ground to cover in order to rekindle their fractured relationship.
