Tim Schultz is an Australian MMA fighter who has been in the headlines due to a tragic incident in his personal life. The fighter has provided constant updates on his Instagram profile for the fans. The very first update on the matter came in the middle of May 2023, when Tim revealed that he shifted from his home country of Australia to Thailand. The reason for the move was his aspiration to train at Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA in Phuket.
However, he was hit with a piece of bad news around the same time when Tim was hospitalized with a serious staph infection. Staph infections are common amongst the fighters and it is caused by staphylococcus bacteria. While minor cases of it are usually treatable, there are instances when the symptoms can become severe. Unfortunately for the Aussie, he required two surgeries on his leg only a week into his treatment.

After his surgeries, Tim’s friend and fighter Matt Lee-Manwar took over his Instagram account and revealed the harrowing state of his leg. Some gruesome videos released by Tim’s Instagram account painted a picture of how the situation has worsened. In one of the updates, It was revealed that Tim had raised “just enough or almost enough” money to pay off his $13,000 medical expenses in Thailand.
Afterward, the doctors allowed him to fly off to Australia, but with “a nurse or paramedic” accompanying him. In another update in the last week of May, It was revealed that Tim had flown off to Australia, and as of the latest updates from his account on May 31, Tim had reached home in Queensland safely.
What is the latest update on Tim Schultz and his health?
As per the updates provided by Tim’s social media account, he was assessed immediately after his landing in Australia. At the time, although his condition was “critical,” Tim was still described to be “stable.” Tim had MRSA previously as well, which is an antibiotic-resistant staph infection. One of his posts also claimed that Tim’s treatment in Thailand was “poor” and he was reportedly on Ceftriaxone which was not the ideal drug for skin infections.
Hence, there were fears that Tim may end up losing his leg, or worse, his life. However, As per the last update on the matter, Tim Schultz went under the knife in Australia and the surgery was successful. Apparently, his “skin has been removed from his shin to upper thigh.” On top of that, some superficial fascia was removed as well. But, fortunately, the doctors can save his leg as the infection did not affect the muscles.

Tim currently has a donation fund that is targeting to raise $AUD 100,000. So far, about $AUD 60,891 has been raised. However, after the surgery, Tim Schultz is described to be in good spirits and thanks all his supporters for their generous help. Recently, former UFC interim lightweight champ Dustin Poirier went through medical procedures to treat a staph infection on his leg. Fortunately, Dustin was able to recover fairly quickly.
