WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns successfully defended his title at SummerSlam 2023, as he defeated his cousin Jey Uso in the Tribal Combat main event match. Despite a successful title defense at the Stamford-based promotion’s biggest event of the summer, the event didn’t end in the best possible manner for The Tribal Chief.
The reason why Roman didn’t have the best possible experience at SummerSlam 2023 was because he reportedly got injured during his match at the recent PLE. Following the reports of Roman’s injury, a lot of people have been speculating about when the Tribal Chief suffered this injury and if he himself was the reason behind it. So, let’s take a look at how the Undisputed Champion got hurt.
According to WrestleSTAR, Reigns got injured during a spot near the barricades outside the ring. This happened when Roman was collecting his breath outside the ring and his cousin, Jey Uso, dived on the Tribal Chief from in between the ropes. He was able to take the champion down with his dive, but this was seemingly the spot that left Roman injured at SummerSlam.
Nothing has been confirmed by the Triple-H-led promotion about the Tribal Chief’s injury, and reports have also not revealed the nature of his injury. However, the injury Roman suffered at SummerSlam has surely lessened the happiness he may have felt following his successful defense of the Undisputed title during the Tribal Combat match.
Roman Reigns is reportedly scheduled to appear on Friday night’s SmackDown
The Tribal Chief may have tragically suffered an injury during his SummerSlam match, but it seems that it won’t really have an immediate effect on his scheduled appearances. According to reports, Roman will appear on the August 11 episode of WWE SmackDown for a segment dedicated to his successful title defense against his cousin, Jey Uso.
According to Fightful Select, “As of now, it doesn’t appear serious enough to affect immediate plans, as Reigns is scheduled to appear on ‘WWE SmackDown’ this Friday, where a special ‘Hail to the Chief’ segment will be held in his honor, and his other scheduled appearances haven’t yet been changed“.
As far as the reports by Fightful are concerned, it seems that Roman’s injury isn’t really a very serious one. However, it still remains to be seen if WWE will give him some rest to get properly fit, and if the company does, what amount of time will he require to recover completely?
It will be interesting to see how the Tribal Chief’s reported injury will be handled by the Stamford-based promotion and if he will continue to make appearances on WWE TV in the upcoming weeks.
