Ian Garry is one of the top rising prospects in the UFC welterweight division. The No. 10-ranked young prospect has proven himself to be a threat in his weight class. However, his young career is already marred by various controversies. However, the biggest one of them is his removal from Leon Edward’s gym, Team Renegade.
Furthermore, his fellow UFC colleague, Paddy Pimblett, has now added fuel to this ongoing controversy. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, ‘The Baddy’ made a shocking revelation about Ian Garry and Leon Edwards. While talking about who will be next in line for a welterweight title shot, Paddy brought up a piece of secret information from Team Renegade.
While the reporter was talking about Ian Garry, ‘The Baddy’ had a lot to say. “Ian Garry does not deserve a title shot. Come on, I mean Leon has already knocked him out in training so we don’t need to know about that,” said Pimblett. Furthermore, when the reporter asked him about this again, he said, “That’s what I’ve heard“.
This is a shocking piece of information, as details about sparring sessions are usually not revealed to the outside world. Furthermore, neither Leon Edwards nor Ian Garry have responded to these comments so far. On the other hand, Leon is set to defend his welterweight title against Colby Covington at UFC 296.
Ian Garry calls Leon Edwards ‘insecure’
Ian Garry was not happy with the fact that he was kicked out of Team Renegade. Furthermore, he believes that the decision was solely made by Leon Edwards and his coach, Dave Lovell. “Leon Edwards, (and) his head coach (Lovell) asked me not to come back to Renegade,” said Garry. He further claims that other members of the gym were very welcoming towards him and had great energy.
Ian Garry claims that ‘Rocky’ and his coach had issues with the Irish fighter training on the mats. According to Garry, the welterweight champion was having insecurities since he would be the future contender for Leon’s title. “Leon doesn’t want any insecurities or doubts on his own mats, within the gym, which I don’t fully understand,” said ‘The Future’.

On the other hand, Team Renegade felt that Ian did not fit the culture of their gym. Furthermore, the team went on to call Garry’s training approach ‘nomadic,’ as he likes to travel between various fighting gyms. “This has nothing to do with one specific fighter or a specific coach,” said Team Renegade in their statement.
However, ‘The Future’ feels that it was just the decision of Leon Edwards and his head coach. Furthermore, Ian Garry went on to call Leon “weak-minded” for not allowing a top 10 welterweight to train in his gym. It will be interesting to see how they interact during the UFC 296 promotions.
